So fix that problem--let DC vote in the Virginia (or Maryland but not both) Senate elections. That problem can be addressed somehow.

And let them buy guns in Virginia and Maryland.

The District of Columbia was originally set up as a politics free zone designed to serve the needs of the people that worked for and/or with the Congress and the administration. I do not think the designers ever imagined that there would be more lobbiests than the original population of the District.

I have no idea how to keep the city outside of politics and still provide Federal and State Representation for the citizens of the Distict.
