California's unemployment rate tops 10 percent ...and this doesn't include people who have given up looking for work or their unemployment compensation has expired. What will California's unemployment rate top out at - 15%, 20%, 25%? There will be a lot of dumpster diving in LA! Any chance of more riots in Watts?

Don't worry - be happy! Never fear CA - your Messiah will save you from all things evil!!!

Don't kid yourself, it's on the rise no matter where you live and it's not going to stop.

Oregon just went to 10%. I read Ohio's up too. States with the highest unemployment will receive more from the federal government in the stimulus package. This is the same as with the housing market. Some states were crowing that they weren't going to be affected. It just took a little longer for some states to get hit. What happens in CA affects the rest of the country because they are the eighth largest economy in the world.

How bad are things in San Diego? In other words is this number highly concentrated to a specific region of CA?

It depends on your field.

The people getting hit hard are those in construction/real estate/etc. I'd say outside of those fields unemployment is on par with other states.

I'm in Software and doing okay. Also a lot of SD is gov't funded/defense spending. It's going to get a lot worse in places that were construction centric (I would guess Vegas, Pheonix, Florida might be in for a tough time in the near future).

It's just sickening. Some of these guys don't seem to realize that there are a lot of Republicans/Conservatives all over California.

Arizona may need a fence to keep Californians out more than one on the Mexican border
