Hemp is probably the most useful and versatile cellulose product in the world. Everything from fuel to building materials and clothes can be made from it at a far lesser environmental impact than trees or cotton and it's far more nutritious than corn. So why has hemp been demonized in this counry? I'll take a wild guess that pressure from the cotton and timber lobbyists might have something to do with it.

http://www.thehia.org/facts.html

Here is an interesting and enlightening assortment of hemp facts:

1) Hemp is among the oldest industries on the planet, going back more than 10,000 years to the beginnings of pottery. The Columbia History of the World states that the oldest relic of human industry is a bit of hemp fabric dating back to approximately 8,000 BC.

2) Presidents Washington and Jefferson both grew hemp. Americans were legally bound to grow hemp during the Colonial Era and Early Republic. The federal government subsidized hemp during the Second World War and U.S. farmers grew about a million acres of hemp as part of that program.

3) Hemp seed is nutritious and contains more essential fatty acids than any other source, is second only to soybeans in complete protein (but is more digestible by humans), is high in B-vitamins, and is a good source of dietary fiber. Hemp seed is not psychoactive and cannot be used as a drug (learn more at TestPledge.com).

Sneering and smearing are so easy when you don't have enough brains to come up with an intelligent rebuttal. All the symptoms of a F#X So-Called News sycophant. Who needs facts when you can just snarl. Auditioning as a Bill O'Reilly replacement or just his fluffer?

Well, that was quite enlightening remark...

Are you aware of the difference between hemp and pot?

For those with an honest intent interest in hemp, as a beneficial industrial crop, not as a drug source:

I only made the remark because I couldn't seem to forget his topic early last month: //www.city-data.com/forum/polit...ss-doobie.html

You don't need to worry about me wanting to take your weed or snacks away, I've just come to the realization that crap is a waste of time, money and one's potential. And yes, for the record, hemp is a wonderful thing to utilize and im all for it.

Too funny... cause if you or anyone else want my weeds, hell, you can have 'em. Appreciate anyone wanting to get 'em out of my garden. Cause, btw, I've never smoked, anything. As to waste of all as you stated, not much of an argument from me on that either - unless one is going to try to lump the kind of 'weed' that is smoked as being worse than alcohol.

Getting back a bit on-topic, some more info: Industrial Hemp: The Ultimate Web Resource For Hemp

Oh, as to my snacks, now those are indeed fighting words there!!!

Industrial hemp is an incredible plant. It could go so far to helping our energy independence.

I don't use recreational hemp (marijuana) but i do sadly hope that it is legalized in California so Industrial hemp can be grown for its seed oil, protein meal for feed and fiber for paper and other industrial uses.

If it is legalized i hope to plant thousands of acres of "Industrial hemp" which has such a low THC level that it is not capable of being used as a drug.

But unfortunately the feds can't tell them apart so it will take the legalization of all the genus cannibus sativa to allow growth of industrial hemp.

Default Knowledge is POWER

Want the truth on what can be manufactured here in this country and how it would free us from destroying precious natural resources?

I could build you a beautiful home and furnish completely, fill your drawers and closets with clothing and stock the pantry with food items and park a car in your driveway that does not need petrol to run it.

And guess what?

It can all be done with HEMP!

Not the good stuff I enjoy, but the Industrialized Hemp.

You promised change Mr. President.

Create jobs, re-introduce the American way of manufacturing and start saving the planet.

Wow, one, just one plant could do all that and more Mr. President.

Please people go to Jackherer.com and get an education, learning is FUN!

I grow my own in a deep water culture. All organic (that means roadkill) nutrients. No ferts, no chems. No nasty man made infusion of poison to enjoy.
