Far more informative and germane to the subject of American stupidity is examination of the people Americans elect to represent them.

For example, does anyone recall Nancy Pelosi on Larry King arguing that natural gas is not a fossil fuel? In fact, that probably deserves its own thread...
Burnsey! We were rolling over that one. Good Stuff.

I'd say we're lagging behind in exactly none of the sciences. Perhaps in secondary science education, but when it comes to research in the basic and applied sciences, the US is still at or near the top in every field. Our lead is starting to slip--especially as it become more challenging to recruit and keep foreign graduate students, but we have not fallen behind yet. If there is anything to be gained from the current financial meltdown, though, it's that the best and brightest students may stop choosing finance over science and engineering. (some google evidence: Which countries publish the most cited scientific papers? - Science - Thomson Reuters) (http://www.ias.ac.in/currsci/sep252007/750.pdf - broken link)

I would add if anyone genuinely think Americans are stupid than perhaps that person is hanging around with the wrong set of Americans. You can find stupid and smart just about anywhere in the world.

Momonkey's rant was absurd and completely irrelevant. I've seen that video before - it was made several years ago.

For what it's worth, I'm an American and knew all those answers.
I knew most of them, but gosh gee willikers, I never suspected al qaeda and the masons were in cohoots. I'd better think twice about my charitable dealings with them for fear of incrimination by dept of homeland terrorism.

My son is 10 and could answer these questions. Please, not everyone is a moron.

It's wonderful how when the chips are down, everyone wants to stomp on the USA.

If we are so stupid and it 'sucks so much' then please stay in your own country, do not come here, don't call us when you have problems.

I could answer all but one question. What makes Jay's segment all the more sad is when his cameras are on college campus, home of educated individuals, and they can't name the three branches of the government or any of the other simple questions. Bet the majority of them voted for Obama. Of course, it wouldn't be good entertainment if they showed people answering the questions correctly.

Hard to complain about the $400 billion GWB wartime deficits when your party has tripled that and hasn't even passed a budget yet? Let's see how that adds up, one trillion for the spending bill add to that a nearly four trillion dollar budget plus bailouts for failing banks and unsound industries, and let's not forget all those loyal socialist blue states, and that adds up to exactly one bankrupt United States.
Well, at least we got the war criminals out. Now we have to work on the rest of the corporate wh@res.

And leave it to right wing war mongering, hate mongering corporate wh@res? I don't think so. Hey Tek Head was that you trying to figure out where N. Korea was? Thought so.
