What's ironic is that in many socialist European countries, you'd be laughed out of court for suing an establishment for claiming you were burned by coffee you spilled on yourself.
One reason why socialist "works" (I use the term VERY loosely) in other countries is because people aren't permitted to "game" the system like they do in America.
Awww view, you've really gotten to be a softy since Obama got elected. Why it seems like only yesterday I was a bleeding heart, but today you got my metaphor lickety split.
Red and blue states pointing out BS coming down the pike together= UNITED States.
A couple of things, no this woman wasn't particularly bright, but then again with the police (rightfully) pushing 911 I'm not surprised that some folks have come to believe that it is the only number for the local constabulary.
Second, I doubt seriously that the police department would have sighted McDonald's if the situation was reversed, a customer taking food items and refusing to pay for them (of course that's why McD's demands their money up front).
Third, folks need to get off the "woman calls about McNugget shortage" when the story is really about her calling about not being properly refunded.
It reminds me of the McDonald's coffee lawsuit when a woman sued for being scalded by coffee at the drive through. Everyone thought the story was ridiculous, no wondering seeing how the facts of the case were ignored by the media looking for a cool story. If anyone took the time to look into the details the woman required extensive care for her burns. She was well within her rights to sue.
It sounds to me like the McNuggets were the bigger concern.

Well, I'm going to toss my coin into the hat on this one. First there was the Subway incident where a guy was locked out of the store instead of being issued a refund... who ended up calling police. Then there was the Burger King guy....And I'm sure there are more incidents like this out there.
When it comes to this incident, both this lady and the store in question (McD's) were in the wrong.
For the restaurant's fault, she should have been told of a lack of food. Secondly, had she already paid and not received her order, why was she not given a refund? I understand that "All sales are final," but if neither the initial cashier nor the cook(s) were brilliant enough to inform somebody that there was a shortage of food for an offer, then the fault of the food/refund issue should lie with the store.
She should have gotten her $10 back.
As for this stupid woman, I would have taken whatever the fast food joint was going to give me and left at that point, with a receipt and some names. Then, I would file a complaint with the store manager and also with McD's corporate. Last time I filed a complaint with a corporate office of a food place, my debit card was issued a full refund of the purchase AND given coupons enough for 5 free footlong subs.
Calling 911 for some disgusting and unhealthy food is rather stupid. I would have definitely gone the non-emergency route. Calling the EMERGENCY line over something this trivial is stupid. Plain and Simple. I'm quite pleased that they booked her for the blatant waste of resources.
On a side note, I think they need to have some sort of universal non-emergency number.
And here's a great example of what happens when the government keeps cutting the education funding. Just think of what a joy it will be to be in the USA 20 years from now.
If you think people are stupid NOW, just wait, there will lots more of them. yikes!
I'm just not sure who was more stupid - the caller or the cashier for not giving the money back. You can't sell something you don't have then refuse to give a refund.
Which BTW - McD's has issued a statement that they are sending the lady a refund and a coupon.
One thing I can't believe - the tapes are on the internet and the woman's phone number is mentioned on them. Her number is out there for every crazy person in the world to call her.
I can't mcbelieve you guys are still mcarguing this mcpoint.
The mcfool called 911 because she was mcshorted mcnuggets.
She should be in mcjail with the hamburgler.
