Yea right. I guess that depends on how you define successful. I suppose if you mean significantly jeopardizing the future economic viability of the State of Alaska, then yea she has been successful.

If Sarah Palin is an energy expert, a great fiscal conservative and "anti-socialist",......... why does she, as Governor, accept 16 million dollars worth of free Venezuelan oil from Hugo Chavez?
I keep hearing (reading) that Alaska is doing so well because it's "oil rich". The State of Alaska gets back more in Federal funding each year than it pays in.
I guess it's just typical political hypocrisy, talk one line, walk another.

It actually gets funnier than that. During the time of peak oil prices she also proposed giving away free heating oil and gasoline to Alaska residents. Her proposal only fell apart after learning that such a stunt would have "minor" problems like violating the Alaska State Constitution.

That part is not exactly true. If you only consider the Federal Income tax from our small population base, then it appears Alaska is a net drain on the Federal Treasury. However if one considers the income generated to Federal cofferes from Oil and Mineral royalties paid from leases on federal (not state) lands, then Alaska more than pays for itself, which is more than can be said for many other states.

Yes, her biggest problem is she says one thing, but does the opposite. During the campaign, her biggest talking point was how she was somehow a pro development conservative - "drill baby drill". However, her first major piece of legislation as governor was to RAISE taxes on the oil companies in Alaska, to a point now where any future expansion of oil production in our state looks doubtful, and in the last two years the state budget has mushroomed to the largest in history. Hardly the actions of a fiscal conservative.
