Share some stas and thoughts about how our economic crisis affecting things in your state. What's going in your state? Did California see 20,00 state workers laid off? How do you feel your Governor is doing?

(Let's try to keep this post from turning into just another screaming party issues. Share some info on what's going on in your state and how you feel about it. )

Some current stats from North Carolina --- Perdue

Prior to Bev Perdue taking oath as Governor for NC- our nation was already in an economic crisis. Lehman had folded, the housing market changed and the first part of the bail out funds had already been given out to failing banks.

When Governor Perdue was campaigning - she had no idea that NC would end up receiving over $ 735,000,000 from the first part of funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment act (ARRA).

NC schools don't seem to have improved since the NC lottery started in 2006- dispute the fact that reports state that the lottery has had over $ 3 Billion in sales.

Why are NC schools suddenly having record hiring freezes and cutbacks? People are still paying NC taxes and the lottery funds are pouring in.

Why is Governor Perdue having such problems addressing the needs of NC - when she has received so much unexpected funding from the ARRA ? What were her plans before she took office?

Governor Perdue talked about ensuring that 100% of NC's Education Lottery profits went to education. Now she is taking over $ 85 Million in funds out of the education lottery funds to set aside for other bills.

Exactly what makes the situation for NC this bad- when NC all other states is getting so much assistance from the Recovery Act Funds?

My governor, Deval Patrick (Mass) is currently in Jamaica on vacation while his state is 4 billon in the hole.

Did I mention that he took several state troopers with him and that the people of Mass are picking up the tab for the trooper's air fare, food, and hotel stays?

The Socialist Republic of Minnesota is a JOKE-Just your typical failed high tax nanny state-I worked my ass off in 2008 and they are saying that I owe state taxes!? The same state that will tax you to death has TV commercials stating that schools are underfunded, not to mention our 35 W bridge that collapsed almost 2 years ago- What the hell are they doing with all our tax money? Jobs are leaving this state because the tax burden is too high-Northwest left MN for GA after the merger with Delta and many jobs were lost. I love this state and the people of this state but it is a microeconomic example of how high taxes, Socialism and Liberalism can destroy a local economy. Our unemployment rate is currently 8.5%

Ya, and many of those red states that have low taxes and low services have very high unemployment rates as well. Also, they have low housing prices and even lower wages. It all depends on what you are looking for...

I always thought that Minnesota was a fiscally sound state. I mean they do have a cool law that doesn't tax essentials like food(doesn't include non essentials like soda) and clothes and stuff. I know property tax is pretty high though. If I remember right car registration is a bit expensive.

Good luck with potentially moving to the south! Just remember that low taxes equal hardly any services. The Minneapolis suburbs are also the wealthiest in the entire Midwest.

New Mexico is in dire straits. Our Democratic governor / Presidential candidate Bill Richardson has screwed things up badly. He has increased state payroll by ~50%. Spent billions on pet projects. We have a deficit of some $600 million. He counted on oil and gas reserves to pay for fixed-cost projects against the advice of budget analysts. When oil prices collapsed, we were left with bills we could not pay. NM is contemplating raising our state sales tax by 20% from 5% to 6%. This is on top of some of the highest state income tax rates in the nation.

Richardson declared NM a "sanctuary state" for illegal aliens, and then declared a "state of emergency" on the border because there were too many illegals. We have spent billions educating illegal aliens. They are currently trying to secure an additional $340 million for education to cope with some of the worst schools in the nation.

Richardson withdrew his name from Commerce Secretary after it was revealed the FBI is investigating him and his office for serious crimes, including bribery.

There are many positive aspects to NM. Our governer is not one of them.
