FEMA is quetly selling off the millions of dollars of mobile homes and travel trailors it bought after Katrina. They paid too much and now they are being sold for pennies on the dollar for scrap as not in for human use. The lie is Formaldehyde, AND saying in some cases the chenical was 40% higher in these homes than in the average house.

OF COURSE IT IS. IT SHOULD BE AND IT WILL BE IN ANY UNIT NOT EXPOSED TO PROPER VENTILATION. But that is not the real problem - for it is two fold. .

The problem began when someone in FEMA - who had never sit foot in a NEW mobile or trailor, or New Orleans in the summer - ordered 20,000 units with CARPET and sent them to a high humdidty area in the summer without air conditioning. NO UNIT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ORDERED WITH CARPETING.

The second problem is DC lawyers threated jail time if anyone removed the carpet in any of the temporaroy units provided by FEMA. All carpets are treated with formaldehyde because all carpet warehouses have bugs that will embed themselves in the carpet. The chemical kills them. Therefore all one has to do with new carpet is open the windows and use fans for a coupleof days. End of problem. New Orleans families y could not. NO electricity = no power for room fans.

The trailors have now rotted in an empty field in sourthern Arkansas. The real problem now is NOT formaldehyde. It is MOLD. The cost to migigate the mold and rebuild the interior of the units is greater than the loss of seling them as scrap.

Now the danger is the slumlords like the guy on tne east coast that spent
$93k for units to place in his 16 parks. He removed the HUD seal stating the units were not inhabitable.

Here's a clue: Three days in ventilated formaldehyde treated carpet will give you a headache. stuffy nose and watery eles. It won't kill you. On the other hand, living months with untreded MOLD will give you lung disease and a shortened life span. And since mold is created from a combination of standing wate+oxygen, and it is in the air we breathe outside, it is very smart to pay for a home and mold inspection before you buy your next house.

I know one too many landlords who knowingly rent houses and trailors with mold to families with children. I'd love to see what kind of numbers the CDC has on lung disease and allergies in the US. The two are related.

Are these the trailers that were USED after the storm? Have you know idea the condition that these trailers were in after the fine citizens used them?

They all should be burned.

And honestly, how do you expect the average government employee to know not to order a trailer with carpet. They aren't the sharpest pencils in the box.

Some were used and some were not. It doesn't change physics. I agree, they are not the brightest, but I expect a few to have common sense - which is probably expecting way too much or our
government. employees. But mostly its thelies that I really dislike.

FEMA used to be located next to C.I.D. in the Presidio in San Fransico..Suppose it still is? Amazing!
