My parents immigrated to this country with almost nothing and after 30 years, they are both American citizens, successful and they know for a fact that no other country on Earth would have allowed them to have the kind of life they have today. Growing up, I heard so many similar stories from people who came to this country with almost nothing and after 3, 4 years, they already had their own small business. If there is one thing about this country that makes it so incredible is the fact that everything is possible here, which is the essence of America and the reason why this country is so great.

When I hear Obama talk about Socialism, big government and higher taxes, I feel really angry and frustrated because so many people like my parents came to America in particular, because America offered something that no other country offered: freedom, liberty, limited government and economic opportunities.

Like them, so many other immigrants left behind countries like Germany, Ireland, Italy and many others because they knew America was much better.

Immigration is one of main reasons why this country has been so successful for the last 200 years. If this country is no longer attractive to immigrants and becomes just another mediocre socialist European style bureaucracy, I am afraid, it will be the end of America as we know it.

My suggestion to save the US would be to ship the neoCON rightwingers to another country where they would be more comfortable and fit in better...Any suggestions folks???

As for helping to save the United States... we did, back in November.

There is a difference. Your parents came here, LEARNED THE OFFICIAL LANGUAGE OF THE USA and assimilated in to our culture. Today that is not the case. They flat out refuse to learn our official language and refuse to assimilate but instead try and force their ways on us by threatening this govt to give them special rights or else. Then they force their cult religions into our schools, have our religions banned from being mentioned, fight to have the word "God" removed from our money, from our court system, make us remove statutes of famous American heros from the court house as well as remove monuments that read our Constitution.

Then they fight to have the word Christmas removed from our culture, now they are working on banning Halloween because it offfends some one. They get govt grants (free money) to open gas stations, C-stores and hotels while your parents had to work to build theirs.

Back then there was a better work ethic too. Today it's how much can I get away with not doing while still collecting that pay check. And the old saying that anything is possible here is no long true. Neither are we free anymore. USA has fallin to 16th place among free countries and still falling as this crooked corrupt govt takes away more and more of our freedoms as they get more and more corrupt (and get to vote for their own pay raises every year). We are now just a number and there is no longer any loyalty to our own.

But we who remember when America was great do thank your parents for contributing to that.

Another thread from Repubocrat reminding us all that we are doomed.

Is there an endgame to these threads, or does it just feel good to rant about "Socialism" and the end times?

Perhaps you know of some religious clergy who can offer advice. If this man (or woman, if it the case) were to bring up politics when offering you advice, my suggestion would be to run for your life, never to return again. The confluence of religion and politics is maddening enough to drive even a sane person over the edge

I don't know where you get your news, but I've never heard President Obama talk about "socialism."

If you want a clue as to why Obama got elected, one example is the mouth-foaming rant above by desertsun41. He chose to make your post an occasion to not only bad-mouth immigrants, but go on an extended riff on how they are responsible for the war on Christmas, Halloween, this, that and the other.

I voted for Obama in part just to give people like desertsun41 a coronary.

Iran, and Saudi Arabia are great examples of conservatism at its best!

Did they just come recently, or is your head stuck in the early 19th century? Germans, Irish, and Italians haven't had much reason to emigrate to the US for a better life since the post-war era began. I'd wager quality of life there is higher than it is here anyway.

A friend of my mother's recently moved to Berlin to get an advanced engineering degree and got a pretty well paying job over there after being laid off in Michigan. Did you hear they don't just arrest you off the streets anymore? This isn't the only free and relatively prosperous country in the world. And I'll have you know that Europe certainly has its flood of immigrants...some people won't let you hear the end of it.

I doubt BO would "talk" in any depth about his socialist agendas, except to his cronies, who will carry them out with the glee of a panting dog. Certainly no need to do such a favor for a dumbed down public. Am just waiting for his angry "red guard" youth corps to materialize, that ought to be a real eye opener for his blinded followers.

The foolish folks on here advocating a one-party government are more in alignment with the middle eastern totalitarian governments than the GOPs. Notwithstanding that dire part of the globe, your freedom and opportunity for anything good for you and your family will be gone soon enough on this side of the ocean. The resulting devastation and chaos will affect leftists and conservatives alike. Just a matter of time.

If you think what happened last November is "[saving] the United States", it is you who are hallucinating.

Obama has publicly stated that he thinks he was elected to "fundamentally change" the United States (not "save" it). We are seeing the kind of change he had in mind:
  • Destruction of wealth ("return[ing] wealth to it's rightful owners" in his words, which is a socialist point of view; the view that the rich got their wealth by making others poor. This is a lie.
  • He has threatened to nationalize the banks.
  • He is taking over whole segments of private industry (auto manufacturing, health care, energy production)
  • He will (and this is already in work) take away your right to keep and bear arms (making ammo unaffordable, and requiring certifications which will preclude loading your own, which many do now, is the same as removing your right to keep and bear arms).
  • Unreasonable and excessive regulations (such as the new CPSIA which is putting many small businesses and Mom & Pop businesses out of business, and increasing the cost of many products the average family buys every day).
  • Forcing us to buy products we don't want instead of the products we do want (this may seem vague, and a huge generalization, but it isn't really. Example: Compact fluorescent light bulbs. I have even heard that 2 and 3 ply toilet paper may be next to go (no joke)!
  • Government database of all your medical records.
  • National Animal Identification System, an unnecessary and burdensome system which will put many small farms out of business, and threatens the liberty of anyone who owns pets or is a breeds animals (dog breeders, for example).
This list is almost endless. The above suffice as an example.
