Newt may be the last "true" Republican standing. His contract for America was pure political genius since it stayed away from hot-bed topics, and was for the America people and not for special intrests.
Of course most of it never happened, as most died behind the doors of committees or were quickly voted down, as they might interfer with the way things are done in D.C.
(anyone remember more details of 94, please add your comments or correct my errors)
Finally, a Republican with the balls to stand up to the nutcases! Say what you want about Newt, at least he has principles that he'll stick to--and not back down from them.

Newt is looking to nab the spot left vacant when William F. Buckley died, and it isn't a moment too soon. The GOP is desperate for an eminence grise to counteract
the radical fringe, the irrational folks who so desperately need to believe any and
every delusion coming down the pike. It won't be as easy to throw Gingrich under the bus, but they'll try. Now let's see Newt put his mouth where his money goes: let's see if he'll go on Limbaugh's show and tell the idiot to shut up.

It'll never happen...Gingrich is as big of a weasel as fat boy is,just in different ways.

While they both give "Family Values" a backward slant, Newt isn't playing to a audience of Fanboy's. He is playing to all Americans, and that is what I expect from a leader of a political party, talking to more then just the party faithful. It's not that he's soft on Obama or the Dems, he's doesn't tap dance around Repulican issues either or blindly support bad ideas (he was rather quite during the last 4 years......wonder what Chaney had on him)
