california is the 4th largest economy in the world.. there's alot of people leaving california.. and ilegal mexicans are invaing every day..and with citizens like the octo mom breeding like flys california is going into the hole....and 2009 might be the worst drought in recorded history and will bring the worst fire season in recorded history... do you think california could be like mexico in like 15 years???
3) Resource shortages happen as a result of ecology. It's actually happening largely because it produces the nation's fruits and vegetables.
It's a horribly managed state. Not the least of which is because the horrible system that requires 2/3's approval for everything. And yes, the initiative and proposition process needs reform.
that's what the statistics say.. it could be 5th place now.. well it won't be for long
You're kidding, right? California will always be one of the largest economies. For one, it simply has so many people. Also, there is a lot of talent and capital there that is hard to recreate. I would actually be happy if other places developed some of it and retained it.

Alot of that "exodus" probably has more to do with retiring Boomers seeking areas with less/no taxes and a lower cost of living, most notably in other sunbelt states. And Mexican immigration isn't just restricted to California, it's happening all over the country. Although current stats indicate that the sour economy has recently cut the number of illegals aprox. in half.
More significant may be the surveys that consistently put California in the Top 10 States with the highest levels of satisfaction, in areas like life evaluation, healthy behaviors, work environment, physical health, emotional health, and access to basic necessities. Well-Being Rankings Reveal State Strengths and Weaknesses
As far as disasters, boom-or-bust, etc., that just seems to be a part of California's history, including its tradition of appealing to self-reliant pioneers, who are generally a pretty resilient bunch and have learned to deal with it.
an educational system once near the top that now ranks 47th among the states...
a big-city Mayor who claims to be an illegal immigrant 'toilet cleaner'
a Highway System once the envy of the nation, parts of which now are nearly undriveable..
quite a few hospital emergency rooms simply CLOSED, due to unpaid bills..
an increasing pool of High School dropouts and pregnant teens, just at the brink of adulthood...
a budget emergency which was narrowly averted just days ago, followed by a NEW emergency just announced today...to be paid for by the nation's highest taxes, which won't even come CLOSE to redeeming us...
a steady stream of business fleeing the crippling tax rates and stifling regulations for 'friendlier' climes..
a steadily rising percentage of affluent citizens paying good money for the privilege of living in secure, gated communities, beyond the reach of the 'riff raff' outside?....
NO....I don't see anything "Third World" about THAT, at all...Why would you ask??
