His comment showed a total lack of seriousness and how casual he takes the job. The country is in the middle of the worst economy in quite awhile and Obama is on Leno cracking rude comments on special needs childrens. Simply amazing. Has the U.S. population really sunk so low in morals and lowered the expectation so much as to accept this kind of childish behavior from a POTUS?
Imagine if a high school gym teacher made a rude, hurtful joke about special needs children.....the teacher would be fired from their job, immediately.
Righteous indignation is usually very hypocritical if you examine the morals and actions of the person being indignant...

The law books are righteous? If you remember Obama is an educator. Any educator inside or outside of an institution is still subject to law. Discrimination against any class of people especially a protected class is an utter no no for educators.
A president, an educator and national hero comparing his horrible scores to the special Olympics.
A National Disgrace.... He knew it the 30 minutes after saying it when someone told him it was bad otherwise it was everyday elitist humor.... hence the numerous apologies. You folks referred to this guy as the adult that took over....
A gaffe would be accidentally pronouncing a word like "NU-Q-LUR", etc.
A hurtful, insensitive remark about special needs children is hardly a gaffe.
.
All presidents have made their share of insensitive statements. I got slammed on another thread for saying something about another politician, but I would suggest everyone who thinks that their favorite president, whoever that may be, never did anything like this should do a google search.

Well, you left off half my quote. Here is the other half:
Was it a "gaffe" when Imus made his "nappy" comment? He was fired for his "gaffe". Imus comment was hurtful and insensitive.
The remark by Obama about low bowling scores and special needs children is hurtful and insensitive. Can you explain the difference between Obama and Imus? Both were insensitive and hurtful.
I agree with so many here on so many levels, but does this "gaffe" really warrant over 250 posts when you consider the mess this country is in? Granted, he takes the Presidency way too casually, but on this I really don't think he ever meant to come down on Special Olympics in any way. He just wouldn't do it.
It's just too bad he doesn't think things through before he speaks. But that's what happens when you're used to having everything in someone else's words in front of you most of the time and suddenly want to just "wing it".
Obama really shouldn't wing it. Only 2 months in and we're off and running. But he gets a pass from me on this one. I don't even think it was so terrible he went on the Tonight Show. He wants to reach all the people who don't ever watch the news and because that's who he wants to hold in the palm of his hand.
And he does. And he will for a good long time because he looks good (to them), seems affable and likeable ... that's all they're looking for. They just want a tall, nice looking guy with a nice personality up their smiling down on them. Obama fills that image for them.
What's disturbing to me is with any other protected class they can defend themselves. People with disabilities can't hear sometimes, see sometimes, cognitively think sometimes... you have a huge variations but they have disabilities that influence their ability to even understand they are being made of sometimes. Take it for what it's worth, at least if it was one of the other protected classes they at least can comprehend enough to file a lawsuit. Again when you work with this type of stuff daily and you hear the stories of discrimination lawsuits. If it's no biggie to you that's fine. The last 5 years has had a huge jump in transferring to LLC's and removing as much liability as possible from the actual company owners. The biggest push for that is fair housing.
I still say if you can't say it in front of the person you're making fun of then it probably shouldn't be said. Everyone can do as they want, as for now we still have free speech for people that wouldn't be subjected to discriminatory laws.
