HR 1388 has passed the House with a list of rules for the participants that include restrictions on political and religious activities.

‘‘SEC. 125. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS.
‘‘(a) PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES.—A participant in an approved national service position under this subtitle may not engage in the following activities:

(1) Attempting to influence legislation.
(2) Organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes.
(3) Assisting, promoting, or deterring union organizing.
(4) Impairing existing contracts for services or collective bargaining agreements.
(5) Engaging in partisan political activities, or other activities designed to influence the outcome of an election to any public office.
(6) Participating in, or endorsing, events or activities that are likely to include advocacy for or against political parties, political platforms, political candidates, proposed legislation, or elected officials.
(7) Engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted.

What ever happened to the First Amendment and "Congress shall make no law..."?

Looks to me like the Hitler youth all over again.

Guess we should all read the HR 1388 GIVE bill since it has passed the House and is now in the Senate.

Quote:
Sec. 1801
‘PART I--ADDITIONAL CORPORATION ACTIVITIES TO SUPPORT NATIONAL SERVICE’.

‘(j) Call to Service Campaign- Not less than 180 days after enactment of this Act, the Corporation shall conduct a nationwide ‘Call To Service’ campaign, to encourage all people of the United States, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, or economic status, to engage in full- or part-time national service, long- or short-term public service in the nonprofit sector or government, or volunteering. In conducting the campaign, the Corporation may collaborate with other Federal agencies and entities, State Commissions, Governors, nonprofit and faith-based organizations, businesses, institutions of higher education, elementary schools, and secondary schools. GovTrack: H.R. 1388: Text of Legislation, Placed on Calendar Senate
Quote:
‘(1) FEDERAL AGENCY SUBMISSION- The head of each Federal agency shall prepare and submit to Corporation for Community and National Service a report concerning the implementation of this section, including an evaluation of the performance goals and benchmarks of the partnership programs. GovTrack: H.R. 1388: Text of Legislation, Placed on Calendar Senate
One thing I have not yet read/figured out - who is the Corporation?
Quote:
‘(2) PROHIBITION ON GRANTS- The Corporation may not provide a grant under this section to a Federal agency.’; and .....

This is the revised version now before the Senate (dated March 19).

Maybe I am reading it wrong, but I read it that you cannot "use" your position as a Fed rep/volunteer to conduct these actions. I don't read it that these activities are prohibited.

In this world we are living in and the Country I served was founded on “IN GOD WE TRUST”, and now we are trying to take GOD out of this. The world is going down and the people that voted for Obama started it. He is not my savior he is just a man. I think he is bringing in the era of the anti Christ. I read this and I see a world that is going to be like Sodom and Gomorra and all that have read our Bible's know what happened to that place. Here is the worst part, "The Bill would forbid any student in the brigade to participate in “engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of religious proselytization.” That means no church attendance or witnessing.Again, is this what America voted for? Here is part of the HR1388 Bill’s wording:SEC. 1304. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS.Section 125 (42 U.S.C. 12575) is amended to read as follows:SEC. 125. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS.(a) Prohibited Activities- A participant in an approved national service position under this subtitle may not engage in the following activities1) Attempting to influence legislation.(2) Organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes. We all need to stop looking at Obama and look to the right place and that is Jesus Christ the Lord God and the true SAVOUR!!!!!!Sgt William P Burns RET United State Marine Corps.

these rules are not forbidding people from doing these things full stop.

they are forbidding them from doing them AS PART OF THEIR SERVICE.

i'm sure you guys would be ecstatic if, for instance, this volunteer corps was lobbying for universal health care or passing out petitions to stop global warming. or volunteering in a mosque for that matter.

and if they're forbidden from taking part in political activities, pray tell how are they going to bring about the marxist overthrow of the government that you people are quaking in your boots about? you'll have to pick one fear or the other, cause they're not compatible with each other.

Another completely insane thread. Really.

Are you completely incapable of seeing that the prohibitions here apply to many groups? Say ... military officers? Have you protested the loss of their freedoms during the last 200 years?

This is silly.

So by using your example, you are equating these people with military officers?

As usual the OP seems be confused by their own argument.

I an effort to insure that volunteers remain absolutely neutral the bill restricts any involvement with any organizations which might be in conflict with others, be it political, religious or public advocacy yet you equate this with the Hitler Youth (the outrageousness of the claim notwithstanding) whose purpose was to be anything but neutral when it came to politics, religion or public advocacy.

It must be very difficult to be politically bi-polar.
