Of course a number of areas of our country have experienced disasters since Hurricane Katrina, back in 2005 - but I for one, still can't get the images of all the Katrina victims waiting for supplies and assistance from my mind. My brain still attempts to make sense out of the horrible facts surrounding the lack response to the needs of the people. It remains a shameful and unexplainable event for our nation.
With the present state of our economy requiring so much attention, I am wondering how prepared we are for handling our next emergency. With cuts in funding and personnel has this effected our ability to be prepared for the next large disaster?
Many charities have had their contributions seriously affected by the expansive downfall in the economy. What role might that play in helping people during the next disaster?
Considering so much time, energy and funds are being put into dealing with the critical economic situation- I wonder if enough is being done to make sure that we have the funding, supplies, emergency response teams and plans in place to provide the type of response a nation such as ours should be able to flawlessly perform.
