Cutting taxes and reducing spending causes growth and controllable inflation. More government spending and higher taxes causes stagnant wages and greater inflation. For those too young to remember the Carter era (error), this is exactly what those of us who lived through it have been warning about. What makes this situation even worse is the equalized wages bill BHO signed all but guarantees no one will be getting a raise any time soon.

"Per capita income rose slower than inflation in Florida last year, meaning the average person was effectively earning less, according to federal statistics released Tuesday."

Growth in Floridians' income falls behind inflation - Business - MiamiHerald.com (http://www.miamiherald.com/business/story/965331.html - broken link)

"Before today, women could only file discrimination suits within six months of first experiencing a pay gap. The new legislation allows suits later, as long as the alleged pay discrimination is continuing."

"At no time in the piece did Shipman feature anyone who disagreed with the concept of the pay gap or offer any downside to its passage."

ABC's Claire Shipman on New Law and 'Female-Friendly White House' | NewsBusters.org

Bottom line is no one gets a raise because women won't ask and men will be told no because they will have to give every woman a raise too. Sounds to me like this is a bonus for the employer who doesn't have the problem of raises any longer. Are the rich going to get richer because of this bill? Are worker's wages effectively controlled at a time when inflation is sure to explode?

Isn't this just another fine example of the liberal social engineers failing to think things through?

We haven't had raises in most Florida companies for years, but I'm glad you finally figured out it's Obama's fault.

(shakes his head in utter disbelief...)

Stagflation? Of course increased unemployment in the latter part of the year would have preceded any drop in prices....

No one getting a raise because of simply changing the time period for filing a equal pay complaint???

Clueless.

One problem, Florida has been run by Republicans for the past 10 years. So if it were the fault of liberalism why is it Florida in particular, a state ran by the conservative Republican party that is feeling the effects. If it were a national problem created by liberal policy at the federal level as you suggest by citing national legislation then wouldn't all states be effected, and the worst effected ones be liberal states ran by democrats such as Hawaii, Massachusetts and New Jersey (None of these states or any other democratic controlled states are on the list below Florida). That is the conundrum isn't it. If liberal policy at the national level is responsible for the problems in Florida then why aren't those problems magnifed in states with liberal state governments? Just some food for thought.

If you were to ask me the states experiancing the backlash have nothing to do with liberal or conservative government, but a simple correction of the explosive growth that occured in them prior to the liquidity crisis. That is why Florida, Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, and Utah are at the bottom of the barrel and previously slow growth states like Wyoming, Oklahoma, Iowa, Alaska, and North Dakota are seeing the largest increases.

Assuming you're a male with an employer, can you explain to me the scenario in which you are able to convince your employer to give you a raise in pay when doing so would require that employer to also give equal raises to every single female employee doing similar work? Since the definition of similar work will be decided during a lawsuit by any female who feels slighted, why would any employer risk giving a male a raise?

Youre so off-base about the Lily Ledbetter Act it's not even funny.

"The bill amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964 stating that the 180-day statute of limitations for filing an equal-pay lawsuit regarding pay discrimination resets with each new discriminatory paycheck."

And this is adversely affecting the state of Florida HOW?!

Maybe what you're unhappy with is Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Clueless.
"The Equal Pay Act essentially covers "equal pay for equal work" and applies only to sex-based discrimination. The Fair Pay Act expands these protections in two ways: First, it prohibits pay discrimination on the basis of race and national origin, as well as sex; Second, it prohibits such discrimination among workers performing dissimilar work in equivalent jobs."

"The major provision of the Fair Pay Act prohibits wage discrimination based on sex, race, or national origin among employees for work in "equivalent jobs." Equivalent jobs are those whose composite of skill, effort, responsibility, and working conditions are equivalent in value, even if the jobs are dissimilar. The Act is a natural extension of the 1963 Equal Pay Act, which is limited to sex-based discrimination in the same jobs. For enforcement purposes, the Fair Pay Act allows class action lawsuits to be filed and provides for compensatory and punitive damages,"

Pay Equity Information

Like I said, no one gets a raise.

The country is experiencing deflation not stagflation. Deflation is be far more worrisome too because it is so hard to fight. About the only thing a central banking can do to fight deflation is to try to pump up the money supply in order to spark a bit of inflation.
