Leaving up to 50,000 troops in Iraq IS NOT BRINGING OUR TROOPS HOME...moving troops to Afghanistan IS NOT BRINGING OUR TROOPS HOME.

He's leaving troops in Iraq until 2010, so yes they are coming home. However BOTH candidates stated that they were going to build up the troops in Afghanistan. So again i ask, where is the lie?

There is no lie. His plans for Afghanistan are actually quite realistic, but long overdue.

The problem is in the public's perception that the 'surge' worked in Iraq and this could therefore work in Afghanistan. Improvements in Iraq were actually more to do with the Sunni Arabs being defeated by the Shea. Afghanistan is completely different in its political importance, economy, and internal power struggles. Although Obama knows exactly why Afghanistan is important, I think he needs to be clearer with the public on what it is exactly he wants to achieve and how.

Um, what lie? I guess you didn't pay attention during his campaign for he CLEARLY said he was going to withdraw troops from Iraq & focus on Afghanistan. Jesus, you people are so screwed up, you argue over things that don't even exist.

we still have 57,000 in Germany, maybe they should be guarding our bording keeping all the illegals out, we only arrest 4,000 illegals every day on the border. what an unmittigated drain on our country.

it's time to start taking care of this country.

Doesn't this sound eerily similar to the beginnings of the Vietnam war? Obama needs to consult with Gravel, Paul and Kucinich for some sound advice on how to extricate himself from the tar pits that Bush got us into, not the Republican re-treads he has been. Afganistan's Taliban was trying to hand Bin Laden over to us before 9-11, and of course Bush didn't want him because it would have disrupted the attack. The Taliban are disgusting, but they are a direct result of our meddling in Afgaistan in order to recruit a force to fight the Russians.

Zbigniew Brzezinski (Mika of morning joe's father) was on Rachael Maddow today, and he seemed to think well of the total strategy. He did lose me toward the end - slight accent - so I missed his last couple of remarks.

Who cares, you ask?
True, its one opinion - but I'll take that opinion over the average media personality any day.

And he kinda reminds me of Yoda.

Different time, different situation and most certainly outgunned by U.S. technology specifically the stinger missile. When the stinger was given to the Afghans the Russians were losing multiple planes and helicopters each day at the height of it effectively grounding all Russian air support and reconnaissance. They were fighting blind in a hostile environment against an adversary that knew the terrain and had nearly the same capabilities.

The U.S. does not and will never have that issue as there is multiple platforms from which they can conduct such operations giving us an overwhelming advantage.
