It is about the teachings that are taught to the children that gay and being gay is wrong, hateful , horrible, disgusting, effeminate, evil, pitiful, etc. That is where the wrongness begins.

Of course people have the right to defend it, but does defending it have to include disallowing those same rights to other people just because of how they're wired and whom they choose to spend their lives with?

Yes; I was subject to a lot of those teachings myself--not in my own immediate family but rather in my community. We were very white, very insular.
But why shouldn't it be about marriage? By marriage I mean a legal contract between two people so that they can have the same legal rights as straight couples concerning things like health benefits. And what about when one partner can't be considered the "next of kin" in a hospital/emergency situation?
It's not a collective thing. The problem lies within individuals. There are pro-gay Christians as well. A lot of people use religion to project their own personal hate.
Good for you. It sounds like you want a trophy made out of gold. Well, you are not going to get one at all. Be gone
It was a direct response to your post saying that "I'd never go have a beer with you because you're gay"
I, in turn, answered that I've got very close friends that are gay.
You, in turn, change the subject...and the beat goes on.
You're correct, I wouldn't go have a beer with you because you're ignorant and a child.
I don't give two craps what you think of me. You're just looking for another person to hate you because you're gay, so you keep on trying to stoke the fire.
I'm not gay. I hope nobody thinks I am gay, now that I realized how evil and disgusting society truly is. I'm asexual and have nothing against gays or lesbians, I think they have put up with waaaay too much negativity for such a petty and microscopic reason. They would be better people if they were encouraged and supported for their gay identity from the get go, instead of banished or shunned as being freaks or perverts.
I don't want to be your friend. I don't like jumping through hoops.

I don't think any of the answers would be true. Hatred or a strong dislike toward a group, may be taught but it doesn't always "take." My father didn't not like gays period. My mother thought gays could be turned straight, she saw it on the "David Suskind Show." Both my parents died in the 1980's. Even though I was raised by people who didn't like gays, I had no reason not to like gay people. I guess I should also add, I was raised Catholic and gays were never mentioned at school or at church.
You can't have it both ways. Either you are against gays and lesbians or you are for us. Don't try this religious double-speak nonsense and maybe THEN you won't be dismissed.
Also, the religious condescension and arrogance in your post is palpable. You know exactly what you're doing. It's the oldest trick in the Christian book.
Actually I'm for you not being gay, but that's your choice. I spent a long time in the restaurant business and was a waiter for about twenty years. I've worked with a gay or two. Generally speaking, gays are better workers and definitely team players. I'd rather work with a gay guy than a heterosexual guy in most cases. I've also found them to be more honest, again, in most cases. Furthermore, since you have identified yourself as being gay, you already know that gays tip better than heterosexuals by far, and they're more polite than the hetero folks who keep saying gimme at the start of every sentence. I'd rather wait on gays than straits. Having said that, the gay sex thing is simply unnatural, and in my opinion, disgusting. Some people like raw oysters. Doesn't mean I hate people who eat raw oysters. I just don't want my favorite hang to become a raw bar. And marriage is for heterosexual unions only.
Maybe you can have it both ways. I can admit that my cultural conditioning has caused a bias in my own thinking when it comes down to a personal level. But I always do what I believe to be the right thing at the voting booth, which is to vote in favor or same sex equality whenever an issue is on the ballet.
So you admit that you have prejudice against gays, but you will vote for their equal rights under the law? I think you just about summed up how the majority of pro-gay straight people really feel. They secretly hold fear and loathing and prejudice toward gays, but they vote in favor of gays because it's "the right thing to do."
