Imagine my surprise when I found this out--Vermont, the state with the second highest percentage of voters who voted for NObama! With all of the welfare-momma Obama supporters and pinko judges who let baby killers and father rapers out of jail with a slap on the wrist, how did this happen? I thought that God-fearing, straight laced, REAL American places like Louisiana and Mississippi would beat out those heathens ?

Vermont ranked 2nd safest state in nation; N.H. first - Brattleboro Reformer

It's not about religion so much. but rather that Vermont lacks large amounts of minority groups. Or, have you not noticed a direct correlation between more white people in a state and fewer crimes across the board?

NH, Vermont, Maine all look pretty good with the stats, eh?

It's also damn cold up there, and no major urban areas because it's so damn cold up there. Way too damn cold for the illegal Mexicans too.

No population, less crime

We are very rural and have a much older age cohort which overall will translate to lower crime rates. Despite the fact that we go out of way to release or minimize offenders actions we are fortunate to be relatively safe. As is true in many rural states, quite a bit of crime goes unreported as well, especially crimes against persons such as domestic violence and sexual assault. It's also significant that very many towns and localities have no police force of their own and our state police police force is not even a fully 24/7 force, hence, quite a bit of stuff stays in the shadows.

I think the correlation lies between poverty and crime NOT minorites.

I am merely stating the correlation, which indeed exists between states with more white people and states with lower crime. Whether that exists because of a homogeneous population (akin to European countries with fewer minority groups), or the colder climate breeding individuals who are more self-sufficient is unknown (more countries located near the equator have higher crime rates than those further from the equator)

What are the Gun Laws in Vermont?

I didn't know this. From discussions I assumed that VT was wildly liberal and antigun. Many times VT ranks #1 for 'well-educated'.

So the reality is--

--A small state
--Little diversity in the population
--Rural
--Lease restrictive gun laws
--High level of education
--Older population

Anything else? A person from VT wanted to relocate to GA--it will be quite different I think.
