Ok, let's say the next terrorist attack involves poisoning the drinking water, attacking computer systems, disengaging some sort of bomb, you know, the average terrorist activity. How will you stop that?
Stop it? Nearly impossible. However, what if you saw someone dumping stuff in an acquifer? Would you not report it?
If you think you are seeing someone disengaging a bomb, I would hope you would run away warning everyone else.
The point is, there ARE things the public can do and that have been done before.
People are generally stupid enough to be outraged at anything. But no more than those who don't know that given our ways over last several decades, the threat is more or less permanent. Telling you and me, the color coded threat does nothing to alleviate it. Today's color is orange, tomorrow's, purple... so what?
Fear mongering has to stop, and focus should be on reasonable solutions to address the problem at the core.
Perhaps the fear mongering is exactly what's needed and will lead to these reasonable solutions you speak of.
Sounds like you are in favor of a society that has its head stuck in the ground. Don't we have enough of that already? There is nothing wrong with being informed.

It apparently didn't work for the White House on 9-11-01.
This is the same kind of ranting we hear from Republicans every so often; "we're going to win back the House and Senate in '08", "we're going to keep the Whtie House in '08", "S. Palin is going to be a great VP", "Dick Cheney is pro America".
So it turns out powerful people often make boasts that they can't back up.

Looks like someone got mad. I was wondering why we haven't captured or killed Bin Laden since he is the one we believe was responsible for the 9/11 attacks, or were we simply interested in killing as many funny looking impoverished brown skinned people as possible so it looks like we're doing something? That should do wonders for our image in the world. So can someone tell me why we are fighting a war in Afghanistan if the people we are trying to find are not even there?
he might pick to be more aware on his flight this coming weekend. Or when he goes to the city the strange van parked outside the building with people running from it might mean more to him. If nothing else it makes people more alert and with how people are stuck to their cell phones maybe that's not so bad IMO.
This should be common behavior now.
If you’re not situationally aware at all times, it won’t matter that you’re looking around now out of fear.
