U.S. to Join U.N. Human Rights Council, Reversing Bush Policy

By Colum Lynch
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, March 31, 2009; 4:15 PM

UNITED NATIONS, March 31 -- The Obama administration decided Tuesday to join the U.N. Human Rights Council, reversing a decision by the Bush administration to shun the United Nations' premier rights body to protest the influence of repressive states, according to U.N. diplomats and rights activists.

The United States will participate in elections in May for one of three seats on the 47-member council, joining a slate that includes Belgium, Norway and New Zealand. New Zealand has offered to step aside to allow the United States to run unchallenged, according to a U.S. official.

The uninformed and misguided "Bushies" are out in force!

The neocon 'Pucker factor' will go off the scale if we join the "International Criminal Court"!!

Cool, it is refreshing to have real leadership in the white house again.

OH yea...I was just wondering what is the point of having a UN Human Rights Council if 1) the UNHR Council will not condemn any countries that violate human rights and 2) no country cares what the UNHR Council says.

Bush shunned the council as illegitimate because Sudan and Zimbabwe were on it. A human rights council with Sudan and Zimbabwe is akin to a human rights council chaired by Hitler. Doesn't anyone get that?

Only folks with common sense get that which excludes about 99% of southpaws.

NO, it's like the pot calling the kettle black. Bush didn't join the council because of the worldwide condemnation of the Iraq War. All the innocents slaughtered under Bush was inconceivable. Bush had slaughtered tens of thousands more than Hussein did. There was also that little thing about the cluster bombs in Afghanistan, you remember right? Bush did it out of convenience.

Bush slaughtered all these innocents? Hmm I guess you'll have to provide evidence of Bush running around Iraq with suicide vest in hand. You Bush hating lunatics never cease to amaze me.

Oh, GWB couldn't pull a trigger if his life depended on it. He is far too accustomed to "authorizing" and "ordering" other people to do his killing for him. When he was governor of Texas, he signed more death warrants during his term, than any governor of any state ever had or has since that time. I guess that was just a warm up for killing innocent civilians with the stroke of a pen or verbal command.

I don't hate Bush.

But I have infinite contempt for those who do not.

So the United Nations Human Rights Council has condemned the Iraq War? Or was that the old UN Human Rights Commission? Or was it either/neither/both?

Maybe Obama is setting his sights on President of the United Nations. Let's hope so. Maybe he can ruin the United Natios as quickly as he's screwed up the United States.
