That is true. If I had my way it would be removed from the Pledge and the money but it is not a hill I want to die on. We have bigger fish to fry than the culture wars right now.
I agree, it really is nothing when there are bigger problems.
However, when you have rightist loonies of the Michelle Bachmann/Joe McCarthy types making a point of it being some kind of religious/"real American" test then it does need a rebuttal.

And yet those same people are against the simple basis of "Liberty and Justice for ALL"
nobody is going to come by to arrest them, and hang them! They might do that in other countries, but not the United States, so they should appreciate the fact that they have that option.
Very few, if any, first-world countries apart from the US have a tradition of pledging allegiance in the schools or at public assemblies.
FWIW, I first learned of daily loyalty pledges when watching a documentary on the Soviet school system.
if you don't like the part that says under God then don't say that part. it's that simply.it's called free speech and freedom of religon
Freedom of religion requires freedom FROM religion, as well as separation of church and state.
Again, why should a citizen have to omit part of the pledge which does not apply to everyone to begin with? May as well remove the "indivisible" part as well...
It would make far more sense to NOT have any mention of a deity or religion and and keep it neutral for all, and let people INSERT their belief at that point if they feel that is necessary.
It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God in one form or another.
Therefore I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a problem in having 'In God! We Trust' on our money and having 'God' in the Pledge of Allegiance.
I believe it's time we stand up for what we believe!

Why are you afraid/unable to answer questions?
Your post seems to me you are for the saying of the Pledge....why can't you defend it then???????
Because there is NO defense???
What has saying the pledge accomplished?
Do you get out of bed in the morning, salute the flag and say the pledge?
If you don't say it, what happens?
