well if you go to mexico and get kidnapped, I hope your family has deep pockets, since it's not the gov't's place to try and have you released.

What happened to the famous rightwing "Free market solution"

The solution is simple: "FREE MARKET"
(1) Take another route
(2) Give the pirates what they want
(3) Don't do business in that area.

Why should I have to pay with my tax money for the protection of those boats?
Maybe, just maybe, it's because the pirates/terrorists have better arms than the American, or foreign companies definitly, can acquire legally?!?

We as Americans, despite what the liberal media would like you to believe, are unable to get RPG's(rocket propelled grenades) and full auto AK's and RPK's at the local candy store.

That's what these pirates have.

I think that that is a good suggestion. However this was a relief ship bringing food to starving people in Africa so it was not part of a business venture.

If you are going to require a "free-market solution," you'll have to give them all of the free-market options, such as arming themselves. As soon as governments limit this solution, they take over responsibility for the problem.
I agree..

As an American who believes in the Right to Free Enterprise, Trade, & a Free Market Economy, I would take an entrpenuers approach to solving the problem;

Declare Open Season on the the Little $hitstain Pirates, sell Hunting Licenses, to those interested in thinning out the Somali Pirate population,(remember only 200 per day is daily limit) Because it's the right thing to do to protect the environment!

Get the Travel & Cruise Ship industry on board with it, you know like group hunting expeditions, Sell 10 or 14 day vacation pacages, or group discounts, bring your weapon of choice sort of thing, like goin' fishin' with a Shotgun, SKS, AK, M-1 30-06, .762, .223 whatever.

This way the Government expends little if any resources, & those interested in sharpening their marksmanship skills can enjoy this kind of venture & feel good about saving the environment & not upsetting PETA since Somali Pirates aren't on the endangered species list.

Well, it's almost like going on a fishing charter...

We could look for a Constitutional solution, such as granting letters of Marque and Reprisal.

Hmmm....Letter of Marque? Is there a codile in our Constitution that allows for Privateering? Doesn't that put us on the same level as them?
I thought a letter of Marque could only be granted by the Monarchy.

I still think declaring open season on the Somali Pirates seems more fair & sportsman like, You know, the thirll of the hunt...And we are cleaning up the environment in that part of the world.

Article 1, Section 8, paragraph 11 of the US Constitution: "To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;"

The US never sign the Declaration of Paris

That is basically what a letter of Marque does, except it might come with a bounty. It also grants authority to fight specific terrorists and/or pirates without declaring a war on an entire nation.

Let the free market decide...
You get robbed/hijacked off the coast of Somali... don't go over there.
That's called common sense
that makes perfect sense, they act like that area is the united states, simply take another route, theres also something they arent telling us as well
