The manufacturers can't keep up with the demand now. I placed an order for my 2nd AR in January and don't expect it until July. And try to find some .223 ammo anywhere.

On the other hand, it will create thousands of manufacturing jobs.

The TX law should allow concealed carry on campus of Public schools. Private schools will have the right to restrict guns as they so choose.

I'm not advocating some 8th grader taking his dads guns to class.
Maybe you're not advocating it, but that is exactly what would happen...more 8th graders taking their mom's or dad's gun to class.

Yeah, and when they issue concealed carry permits there will be blood in the streets and it will be like the Wild West.

Oh, wait. That was a bunch of crap, too.

Do you realize that the Supreme Court holds the decision that the police are not required to protect you?

I truly hope you are never in a situation where you wish you had a gun.

There is already 250,000,000 guns in this country... Your argument doesn't hold any water..

And children regularly show up in the news because they took a weapon to school that they found lying around the house. I think her argument is quite sound. More guns will foster more incidents.

Of course it does. More guns in more households means more children have easier access to them. It's pretty simple.

I watched an episode on 20/20 about guns last night. They conducted an experiment with young children where a real gun was placed in their classroom. Repeatedly, the children picked up the gun, aimed it at their playmates and pulled the trigger. This was after they had JUST HAD a lesson on gun safety! It made no difference.

More guns out in society mean more that are lost track of and more forgotten in some sock drawer. Who do you think are going to find these guns?

It was mentioned earlier in this thread that 200 years ago, people were building the country and not brandishing weapons like today. This is patently false, as any look through a history textbook would demonstrate. In fact 200 years ago only the foolhardy or arrogant would contemplate traveling any distance outside of their hometown without a gun, musket, or other form of weapon, because of the high risk of highway banditry.

I disagree with the idea that the government should be subsidizing the ownership of guns. This would be a waste of tax money. Let's say this government program cost $50 of hard earned tax earnings, well now every citizen can only afford a gun that costs less by the same amount. Or look at it this way, how many shells would you purchase for $50.
The can of worms with this suggestion is why then would you not subsidize other items with similar utility? How can you logically argue against public education spending, if you're funding gun training classes?
The answer is you can't.
A real problem I see in society is this idea that government spending is great when it's on stuff I want, but I hate it when it goes to things I oppose.
The logical consequence of arguing for equality in government spending is either you have government control the funding of everything under the sun(communist/fascist) or you chose to eliminate all government control of spending(libertarian/anarchism).
Any other system is unfair and ignores the minority by endorsing brute majority rule.
