how about congress and the president put up some actual facts about what kind of firearms they really want banned. because none of the ones they want banned is actually an assault rifle. none, nada, zero.
Again, if the list is overly broad, then that's a separate matter... but the ban of automatic assault weapons is an issue supported by most Americans -- most polls show even gun owners supporting the ban on automatic weapons. I agree that it looks like the list is bigger than it should be but that's something that can be dealt with without throwing out the whole idea of the ban.

If you have 5 minutes and an open mind, you can substantiate it yourself. I don't throw out crap like folks on this board love to do. And i'm talking about real polls... not online polls that are targeted by the NRA.

Reinstatement of the AWB would have no effect upon banning automatic weapons....

Try again....

How were guns confiscated in California? I am not familiar with that... how did they confiscate legally purchased guns?

look at what you wrote.

automatic assault weapons is not what liberals want to ban. those types of firearms have been tightly controlled by the federal goverment since 1934 under NFA34.

the amount of garbage you have to go through is really bad, and the feds can come by anytime they want and see what you have.

the type of firearm the democrats want banned is just a civilian model of a military rifle not capable of firing automatic.

please read up on what the difference between an assault rifle and a civilianized military lookalike rifle is.

because sure as the sun comes up, the civilianized military lookalike rifle is what the democratic congress wants banned.

If I did not register my assault weapon by the registration deadline, is there any way I can legally keep it?

No.
If you did not register your assault weapon prior to the registration deadline, you must relinquish that assault weapon to a law enforcement agency. Failure to relinquish your unregistered assault weapon could result in arrest and a felony conviction.

It's a shame all 40 of my guns were lost in a terrible canoe wreck a few years ago.

I would have been first in line to register them otherwise.

And I haven't been stocking up on ammo and paying with cash either.

WRONG!!! One only needs to register a vehicle if one wishes to drive said vehicle on the public roads. It is not a requirment to register otherwise.

Ahhhh you have hit on the key word here, "automatic". The list of so called "assault weapons" has not one fully automatic on it! They are all semi-autos! Then the hopolophobes lie about it and call them automatics to confuse an uneducated public to support them. Full auto's are highly regulated and can only be purchased after getting a very expensive license and only in class 3 states.
