WOW...

Evangelical leaders say they are bewildered and stunned by the Rev. Rick Warren's apparent turnaround on gay marriage after the famous California pastor said earlier this week that he was not a proponent of California's Proposition 8.

Mr. Warren told CNN's Larry King on Monday that he "never once even gave an endorsement" of the proposition, which said marriage in the state could only involve one man and one woman. The measure won at the polls last November by a close margin, in effect negating an earlier California Supreme Court ruling allowing gay marriages.

Hopefully he sees the light and decides to stop being a bigot but the man does have a history of lying. Unfortunately for him he also talks on tape a lot so there is definitely a record of him publicly endorsing prop 8.

What, a fine upstanding Evangelical lying? I'm shocked I tell you, just shocked...

It's becoming harder for ignorant people to speak before the public & not be mocked. I'm glad Warren is backing away from his own ignorance & now needs to preach\ask for forgiveness for himself & his flock.

I am confused by Rick Warren. He clearly endorsed the Yes on 8 Movement. He joined Catholic, Protestant, Black Church, and Latter-day Saint leaders in supporting the movement back during the fall.

Just like the Scarecrow in "The Wizard Of Oz".

He finally got a brain.

Takes a Big Man to admit when he's wrong. Is there an ulterior motive, or is he sincere?

The forgiveness he may need to ask for is in this apparent compromise in his position on Gay "marriage". Ignorance? Being faithful to God's Word is not ignorance. But ignorance of God's Word is inexcusable and is sin, which requires repentance. Repentance is perhaps what Warren needs in this case.

However, among many Christians, Rick Warren has always been a controversial figure. He has become well known because of a series of books he has written, which have become popular reading among many Christians, and many churches have molded themselves around his teachings, almost in cult like fashion.

This has caused church splits, as many people see this cult like trend in their church troubling. "The Purpose Driven Church", seems to be the model everyone wants to follow. Many people left the church we were attending, because it also began to mold itself around Warren's ideas. No matter what church one visits or attends, it is hard to escape Rick Warren's teachings. His books are everywhere.

It is never healthy for a church to pin their entire ministry on the teachings of one man; but, that is what many churches have allowed to happen.

Neither is Rick Warren the best there is in the list of Evangelical authors. John MacArthur is one of the best, if not the best, in my opinion. Right up there with John is R.C. Sproul. I would choose books by either of these evangelical leaders before any Rick Warren book. This is because they stick to basic Bible teaching. If what you want is understanding of what the Bible means and teaches, their books are "must haves".

Warren is purley a fad. He will fade, and so will his books. His apparent capitulation on this issue, if true, will be the begining of his downfall.

I suspect that this apparent shift of position may have something to do with his recent association with a President that is at odds with his former stance on this issue.

He is wrong to abandon (apparently) his position on this issue. He has chosen (again, apparently) to ignore the clear teaching of the Bible, in favor of acceptance among men. Lke Peter (and a rooster crowed).

(Jeeeez...you can't even use the other term for "rooster" on here, a perfectly good English word! Ridiculous. Context is everything.)

Sorry to crush your sense of simpleton reasoning. The Christian faith used to condone killing Jews\ Muslims\ witches\ homosexuals\ each other. But if we believe that God leads his people we understand knowledge is as a gift from God then we are sinful to ignore compassion.

Some so-called Christians on this post are terrifying imposters who have no understanding of what it is to follow Christ.

How many people will reject anti-gay bias before most Republicans will finally understand? Reminds me of the global warming dummies who reject science since they don't understand it. We can never again let a Republican near the White House if the world is going to survive. The GOP is the epitome of brazen ignorance
