For Governor Patterson specifically, this was a no-lose proposition. He's got so many problems with the state budget, introducing a gay marriage bill won't even appear on the radar. He's already managed to set up a scenario where election to a term in his own right is nearly unimaginable. So something like this was relatively easy for him to propose.
I have no problem with the idea of introducing the bill. What I do have a problem with is the timing of it since I think things like the situation with the MTA should be taking a higher priority.

While I hope this goes thru, it probably won't since most of Upstate NY is too backwards to embrace something like this, especially outside the cities like Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse.
Gay marriage is being decided in populated & rural states alike [a 2-front assault on ignorance - reminds me of the Civil War]. But the centers of national influence are New York & California. Both will have gay marriage before Obama's first term ends. This is a losing battle that even religious right types [ie Dobson] concede.

Good God, I certainly hope so...
The future looks brighter each and everyday for this country and its freedoms.
