You stop people committing murder with a gun by much stricter gun control as can be seen by the out of control shootings in America compared to the UK for example.
What about all the murders committed with knives, rope, cars, hammers, etc.
What are you going to do about all those weapons, or are we just singling out a inanimate object out of ignorant, irrational, and illogical fears?
I am a ranting left wing socialist. I am also an NRA member that knows how to use a gun. I am not about to risk my life on the bet that a robber will not hurt me. I am even less willing to risk my wife's life. I do own guns and I am willing to use them for self defense. This is not a “right” given to me by a government. I, and everybody else, have this right by the simple act of being alive.
I do not agree with regulating carrying a concealed weapon. How or where a weapon is carried is none of the government's business and I would just as soon have the criminals assume everyone was armed and willing to defend themselves.
I am far more worried that some police SWAT team is going to invade my house because they found a pot seed in my neighbors garbage can than I am the some hoodlum or drug crazed idiot is breaking down my door. I do not think I could take on a SWAT team with any chance of success any more. If the cops want to come into my house to investigate something they can stop at the door and read the court warrant. If they break in unannounced they are fair game.
Well said. We completely disagree on every subject, except for this one. You are absolutely right, we have the inherent right to defend ourselves.
I do not need a semi-automatic or a 50 caliber to protect myself.
I do not have a problem with my background being checked and a waiting period to obtain a gun.
I do not have a problem with stringent requirements for concealed carry.
More control is necessary.

I do, indeed, know what semi-automatic means... I come from a family where almost everyone owns a gun, and several of them are hunters.

I have a 22 rifle that I do trap shooting with upstate for fun, and I have a mossberg shotgun that I keep in the house for protection.
I'm neither ignorant, nor do I want to ban all guns. I'm in the middle, as most people are. Not everyone is either 100% for full restriction on guns or 100% against. That's crazy talk.

Ah, murders in the UK are going UP! Many are now being killed by Knives. So, I guess the next thing is to ban knives??
In the UK the Police patrol and apprehend criminals without guns. Imagine that here? A police officer here wouldn't even leave the station if he wasn't armed. Guns breed guns breed death and we have the perfect breeding ground in America. No one wants a home owner to be robbed or attacked but this euphoria because a home intruder was shot would not be needed if guns were controlled in America and not as easy to buy as a beer.
I live in Arizona. One of the types of criminals our law enforcement officers encounter, often, are members of the Mexican Drug Cartels - who are VERY well armed - often with military style weaponry. These criminals come across the border, into our cities, to deliver their drugs. And, if someone were to try to "arrest" them, they WILL use their fire power. And have. We have dead Police officers to prove it.
You are correct - our officers will not leave the station without weapons - and not merely those they carry on their hip.
Why does anyone need a Ferrari? The speed limit is only 75. Let's ban Ferraris because nobody needs a car that goes that fast.
