The very Texan governor who followed the worst president our nation has ever had to endure is now perpetuating the ignorance that most Texans are so desperately wanting to bury. Texas deserves better than GOP buffoons

Another point, we still produce a large part of the oil you guys burn up north. We could join OPEC since we would be a wealthy oil exporting nation.
It sounds like you are suggesting that if Texas became independent, the oil reserves and production would be nationalized and under the control of Texas(i.e., no longer be under the control of capitalistic enterprises that invested billions in infrastructure). That sounds eerily of socialism, which I thought was your problem with the direction the US is taking. You should really take the time to think these things through.

Texas is already a wealth oil exporting state. The state earns lots of money in royalties and severance taxes. I don't see how becoming independent will increase this income without increasing taxes on oil, or nationalizing the industry at the expense of well meaning capitalist enterprises.

Federal government spending is not limited to the president's budget.

This is should not be a partisan issue. If the wreckless spending continues, we're in deep, deep trouble.
The deficits are unsustainable. Default of our debt is very possible if we continue on this path.

this is where to get the info:

Considering all the Army and Airforce bases located in Texas, I kind of think that idea won't have much success.

Actually, they BOTH have a large share of the nation's oil and technology industry. I'm sorry you buy into stereotypes and "despise" us so much, but let's face it... CA and TX are the 2 most populous states in America and therefore have more press and political clout than other states, bringing them to the forefront of most American's consciousness. Just because a buffoon like Perry stuck his foot in his mouth (which should have some serious negative repercussions for him in the upcoming election), and we have the Guva-natah here, it doesn't reflect the majority view of an entire state's population. I think anyone with their feet on the ground and half a brain these days that elections no longer have anything to do with majority rule, especially when the governor being replaced is George W. Bush.

LOL. OF COURSE Perry has no intention whatsoever of Texas seceding from the Union. But it's really, really good froth-up-the-dumb-base language. Gotta' keep that hatred and fear of Obama going, gotta keep pumping it out until the next election. Did you see any of the hate signs at the "tea parties" today? Unbelievable. Just two of many, many like-minded signs: "American Taxpayers are the Jews for Obama's Ovens" and "Obama is the New Hitler." Ad nauseum. The rich on the right are very, very good at manipulating the poor and uneducated to their political ends. It's kind of tragic, when you think about it.

Perry won the governorship with a plurality, 39% of the vote. Texas is changing. Perry is appealing to the rightwing fringe in hopes of winning the Republican primary, where he will face a huge challenge. Please don't condemn all Texans. Obama won the metro major areas in Texas.

Oh yeah....and the ever popular "show us your real birth certificate" and "we've been taken over by a Kenyan" and, of course, the one showing President Obama as a shoeshine boy. Class acts.

Wow! this country is really sinking to an even lower low. The media may not want to admit it, but most of these false outrages and baseless opposition to President Obama is not because of his Polices, but because many of these people like Gov. Perry and others refuse to accept that the President is a black man. Threatening to leave the Union among other dumb rhetoric is just too much. Perry will pay for this politically and so will the rest of the GOP come next year and 2012.
