Agreed. We need to bring our troops home to protect our borders. Sometimes we are the ones who created the problem for them.

it is certainly not good for our country when newspapers publish stories like these (cursor.org):

An Average Day
65 Afghan Civilians Killed by U.S. Bombs on December 20th

"...we believe it was a good target."
-- U.S. General Tommy Franks

how anyone can think that this is going to either stabilize the region or elicit goodwill towards the united states is beyond me. this only escalates the problems for the united states!

Saaaaayyyyy... we were attacked, remember? Regardless of Iraq, Afghanistan is where the bad guys were operating from. Just going to let them alone, to continue to send wave after wave of terrorists to the USA? How would you like to have, say, 80 2-person sniper teams killing people in our 80 biggest cities? Remember Mohammed/Malvo that did that around DC, and how long it took to catch them? That was ordinary firearms - not even bombs.

Wanna go back to a militia style defense? Ready to get out there in the town square on regular intervals and drill, keep a full-auto privately owned rifle for use in your local militia? 2 weeks of training every year? We could do that - the Swiss do it, and nobody even remotely thinks of invading the Swiss - even Hitler bypassed the Swiss.

Yeah, every mother's son, and their daughters too, giving up 1 weekend a month to keep from supporting armies in the 4 corners of the world that keep us safe now. Ready to pay that?

If we leave either country before it's a good idea to, we'll be right back to having the terrorists operating from them, and we'll all be expecting roadside bombs here. We can either fight 'em there, or fight 'em here. I think I'd rather have professional US soldiers that are, for all practical purposes, undefeatable in any particular battle fighting them there, rather than to be out standing guard duty at the nearest local day-care center to keep us safe from terrorists roaming the country here.

I believe we could eliminate all local, state and import taxes and replace them with a progressive income tax based on all income from all sources. The tax rates would vary between zero for the lowest 85th percentile to 75% (more or less depending on the budget) for the rest. Taxes would apply to all individuals and corporations considered to be individuals with individual rights under the constitution. In order to avoid this becoming a sales tax the corporate dividends would be considered a legitimate cost of operation and not subject to taxes. These would be taxed after they are received by the stock holder.

The primary advantage of this highly progressive system is the tax would be mostly paid by the people that actually own the country and leave most of the people that live in the country a lot more money to save or spend as the will. This would keep the economy in good condition.

The revenues received would be redistributed to lower governmental entities on a per capita basis to pay for State and local government instead of allowing them to implement regressive sales or property taxes. This would reduce the cost of consumer goods and increase the value of housing.

This tax system would also decrease the likelihood of foreign wars as the people that currently make astounding profits off government military contracting would realize that the tax system just about eliminated the profit from warmongering to back up the oil industry. Out troops would be kept at home to defend the United States and not to serve to keep our failing empire intact.

Don't you understand that the income tax is what is killing the country? Our real wages have gone down over the last 10 years, and have been flat for the previous 20. Jobs continue to go overseas, and the income tax is at the bottom of that.

We absolutely, positively HAVE to get rid of the income tax, or we're headed for an economic train wreck. We cannot go on bleeding jobs to overseas locations just because the income tax makes it too expensive to do business here. Corporate income tax ends up taxing our exports, so foreigners wouldn't buy 'em even if they did think they were as good as their locally produced products. We tax corporations, which just pass that all along to their customers, so that the prices of US goods are higher than foreign goods just because of the tax.

Get rid of ALL the income taxes - income taxes are a tax on prosperity. If you want less of something, then tax it - that's what Ronald Reagan said, and boy do we have less prosperity lately.

Drop all the income taxes, and those goods produced here get cheaper by the amount of the income tax that was embedded in their sales price. Lay a consumption tax on retail sales. The $25,000 Jeep Liberty built in Toledo, Ohio may rise a little bit in price, but if the consumption tax is 30%, then a foreign-built SUV will go to $32,500. That's what should happen - a little protectionism against the "work-for-peanuts" foreign labor forces. U really want that foreign SUV, you better be willing to pay big bucks for it. Meanwhile, the foreign mfgr. will be working like mad to build factories here, to produce his SUV for the same price as it was before, as well as sending it out of here with no corporate tax on it - cheaper on the world market. He'll be building new factories, and adding 2nd and 3rd shifts, and there will be LOTS of people employed that were not before. That's what we want. Repeal the income tax, go to the "Fair Tax", and we'll have prosperity, full employment, etc. in very short order.

The revolution that created this country did so after suffering years of excessive taxation under Britan. What will it take for part two?

Believe me, you don't want to find out. There are over 250,000,000 privately owned firearms in American society - any move to restore the Constitition via force will be unthinkably bloody.
