WASHINGTON — The last time Congress passed major environmental laws, acid rain was destroying lakes and forests, polluted rivers were on fire and smog was choking people in some cities.

The fallout from global warming, while subtle now, could eventually be more dire. That prospect has Democrats pushing legislation that rivals in scope the nation's landmark anti-pollution laws.

Lawmakers this coming week begin hearings on an energy and global warming bill that could revolutionize how the country produces and uses energy. It also could reduce, for the first time, the pollution responsible for heating up the planet.

This is the kind of legislation that clearly identifies the huge difference in how Democrats & Republicans view patriotism. Democrats look at the increasingly dire science of global warmth as an obligation to save the environment for the sake of humanity. Republicans conceal\ lie about science & take the usual anti-intelligence stance. They urge patience because it will hurt capitalism's evil desire for unending rape of the planet. This is a moral issue unlike the GOP "morals" that focus on Bible stories\ superstition.

And this from someone who lives in a city which is viewed as an environmental catastrophe . LA has the worst air pollution, houses built all over hillsides where they shouldn't be, destruction of fragile ecosystems and sprawl 90 miles plus in every direction.

And you guys mindlessly believe Al Gore and the liberal agenda that global warming, not pollution is the problem. Most non partisan scientists believe that mans contribution to any climate change is negligable. The Earth warms and cools naturally, byt go ahead and continue to chase ghosts

Uh... maybe not.

Human impact of the last 8,000 is forestalling a normally occurring impending ice age.

"We're at a very favorable state right now for increased glaciation," says Kutzbach. "Nature is favoring it at this time in orbital cycles, and if humans weren't in the picture it would probably be happening today."

Using three different climate models and removing the amount of greenhouse gases humans have injected into the atmosphere during the past 5,000 to 8,000 years, Vavrus and Kutzbach observed more permanent snow and ice cover in regions of Canada, Siberia, Greenland and the Rocky Mountains, all known to be seed regions for glaciers from previous ice ages. Vavrus notes: "With every feedback we've included, it seems to support the hypothesis (of a forestalled ice age) even more. We keep getting the same answer."
University of Wisconsin Study: Did early climate impact divert a new glacial age?

"The theory is reminiscent of another recent piece of research, suggesting a bout of global warming may have kept Earth from totally freezing over hundreds of millions of years ago. Only now, researchers, say, something similar could be happening today."
Is global warming preventing an Ice Age?

Has anyone noticed whether or not the earth's core has been getting hotter and hotter over the years.

Should be pretty easy to check out. Just deep-embed a damned thermometer.

But seriously folks . . .

As a geologist I can't help but laugh at that claim.
