Yup, though it sounds like a few people on this board already have a lifetime supply.

Seriously, if I were to judge the American people by the folks I "see" on this board my response would be simply: "just shoot me now".

Obama would be signing his own execution papers if he did something like that.

You don't know Dick!

You are right absolute power corrupts absolutely. Which is why the Republicans will probably pick op seats in 2010.

Historically we have elected Presidents who have had some military service. The last 3 have not. Very few have been business professionals.
I'm a very bad student in that I remember that which is taught in the classes, just long enough to past the tests and then I move on. Which means that I am the person that memorizes and very seldom will set something to memory. I recognize this about myself. However, if I have written something about the topic then more likely I will remember more, in the future.

There were 5 presidents in our history that declared war without congresses approval. (no I can not name them) Which made President Bush the 6th to do so. If the Chief believes the United States in under great danger, then all he has to do is to give to Congress a 24 hour heads up and deploy.

Why Do the Courts Let Presidents Get Away with War? (http://hnn.us/articles/60702.html - broken link)
Federal Courts have never considered the June 1, 1787 understanding at the Constitutional Convention that gave Congress not the president-- authority over war. In disregarding the events of that date, the courts have distorted the meaning of the Constitution, undermined the War Powers Resolution of 1973, and upheld unconstitutional wars in Iraq and Vietnam. This same error carried forward to the proposal in 2008 by former Secretaries of State James Baker and Warren Christopher. Their proposal would further expand executive power to take the nation to war.

Delegates to the Federal Convention of May of 1787 began by agreeing on a plan proposed by Virginia to separate governmental powers among the president, a two-house Congress, and a judiciary. On June 1, they turned to Virginia’s proposal that the president be given the executive powers held by the congress under the Articles of Confederation.

Charles Pinckney, [South Carolina] was afraid the Executive power of [the existing] Congress might extend to peace & war & etc., which would render the Executive a monarchy, of the worst kind, to wit an elective one. Pinckney’s fear was based on the conclusions of Montesquieu, Locke and Blackstone that decisions for war belonged to kings.

What War Powers Does the President Have? - Dahlia Lithwick - Slate Magazine
Declaring War
The United States has not formally declared war since World War II. Under Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution, Congress has sole power "to declare war [and] grant letters of marque and reprisal." But Article II, Section 2 provides that "The president shall be Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States." While it's clear that the Framers intended for Congress alone to declare war, presidents don't always check with Congress before acting. After President Harry Truman bypassed Congress to go to war in Korea, presidents have paid almost no attention to the constitutional requirements.
Then I also looked up and found their experience prior to Presidential office.
Presidents' Occupations — Infoplease.com

I had read some where that generals were not even allowed to run for office and I just thought that idea to be wrong, experience with the military wise.

I also know that President Bush set about his days in efforts to expand Presidential Powers. In other words the accomplishments he made, he made in efforts to set things up for the next person in office. He was allowed to do so how? And so, on and so on, since the First President, George Washington.

So this part is me, just me and where conspiracies give thought....

The War Powers Act was revised in 1973 and the people that made up congress, stamped their seal of approval on it. And in Martial Law, who is letting the President do if he is so inclined to do? It takes more than one person to pull off a conspiring act.

The President is only allowed to do what other people will let him do. So if there is anything that is going a muck within our country I look at ALL, the people that stood by and let it happen.

But then again, that's just me.

I have too much faith in humanity and the good of man. I can't buy the dire predictions mentioned above.

However, I am baffled and concerned by actions of Obama/WH staff/and Congress. They are worrisome. I keep telling myself they are simply innocent actions, surely they cannot be what they appear or suggest. (I don't put all the blame on Obama - he has to have others behind him who support these actions. Who -WH staff, members of Congress, all of Congress - I don't know). The actions/policies up for review/etc. which concern me:

1. G20 summit: From everything I have read, at the last summit, Obama (as rep for the US) agreed that the G20 establish a Financial Stability Board which will set up regulations and oversee all systemically important financial institutions, instruments and markets. It also includes regulation of executive pay and corporate social responsibility. That includes regs over US financial entities and execs.

2. Cybersecurity Act of 2009: Which could give the President total control over the internet in case of emergency.

3. Czars: Many US lawmakers and outside experts are concerned about the number of czar's, their role, and the power it gives to the President, and that it may be subverting the power of Congress. They are concerned that Obama is setting up a system which is not subject to congressional oversight (Czar's report to the President directly and are not under the power of Congress). There are constitutional concerns, concerns over the lack of checks and balances, etc. There are concerns over the roles of the czar's and questions about how much power they have.

4. The authority of a President to coerce a CEO of a company to resign.

5. The actions and policies regarding the banks. Example: Banks who now want to give back TARP money are not allowed; Allow bonuses in the stimulus because of contracts then blast the bonuses and tax them at 90%, etc.

6. Expansion of the GIVE bill - Read through it and see if any of it concerns you. H.R. 1388: Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act - Legislative Digest - GOP.gov and H.R. 1388: Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act (GovTrack.us)

7. States are concerned enough about expanding Fed control that many are enacting legislation declaring their sovereignty because of Obama’s actions concerning the 10th Amendment. (There are NOT bills claiming succession - they concern sovereignty). Five More States Invoke the 10th - HUMAN EVENTS and other sources Also, check your state.

And the list goes on and on.......
Much, possibly all, of this started before Obama became President. However, it has accelerated in the last 3 months. Again, I don't believe Obama acting alone has the power to make all this happen.

Perhaps it is all just innocent - but it sure has to make one wonder - WHAT is going on?

Very well said. You read my mind.

The ROFLcoptor needs to make an appearance here.

It's about time there's been a conspiracy theory about someone other than Bush though. I just didn't think it'd come so soon.

I would bet that, if we did not have term limits on the Presidency, Obama would be our second four term, at least, President.

There are lots of true Americans out there. Here is a comment one recently sent my way. You can ridicule if you wish but if the SHTF who will YOU turn to for help? A tinfoil wearing American packing a gun with food and water stores may suddenly look like a really nice guy. Too bad they all know your opinion of them and will likely tell you "hand out" types to hit the road.

It's been noted that 3% of true Americans would bear arms against the Fed. http://sipseystreetirregulars.blogspot.com/ That's a 9,000,000 man force! How big is our current Army, Air Force, Marines combined? It's not even close. So, the questions comes down to, will "that guy" drop nukes on American soil to kill Americans? Time will tell!

Here's two ugly truths:
1. The Jews (for the most part) never saw the freight train coming before it hit them. They acquiesced to more and more "reasonable restrictions", while allowing the government to whip their neighbor into a racist froth against them. Sound familiar? Socialist bills and terror warnings from MIAC and DHS?

2. If push comes to shove and they do TRY to institute martial law, even if they cannot successfully enforce it fully in all locales, the one guaranteed thing is that people will die. Some will be true Patriots, others will be socialist-minded government employees at various levels, but in the end we are all human, and human men, women and children will wind up dying. It WILL be UGLY, even if limited in scope. War is HELL, let us NEVER forget that terrible truth.

Let us resolve ourselves now to do everything in our power to *peacefully* and diligently work to effect a change of course in America, but let us also resolve that if our government engages in violence against citizens that we will take up arms in defense of our country, our Constitution, our families and friends, our homes, and our way of life, and answer violence with violence until the enemy lays down their arms at last. As Patrick Henry so famously said "I know not what others may do, but as for me, give me Liberty or give me death!"

Why work on a policy that shuts off political opposition radio shows? Why stand behind reports that target your political adversaries as potential terrorists? Why work to weaken or abridge the 1st and 2nd Amendments of the Constitution?

Former presidential candidate Alan Keyes has given perhaps his most dire warning yet, saying that the Obama administration is preparing to stage terror attacks, declare martial law and cancel the 2012 elections, which is why they are demonizing their political enemies as criminals and terrorists
Alan Keyes: Government Will Stage Terror, Declare Martial Law
My God man, what in the world are you talking about? I'd rather listen to a peasant in Bangladesh blowing their nose than read this. Both produce the same contents.

Do more, talk less.
