In September 2002, four members of Congress met in secret for a first look at a unique CIA program designed to wring vital information from reticent terrorism suspects in U.S. custody. For more than an hour, the bipartisan group, which included current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), was given a virtual tour of the CIA's overseas detention sites and the harsh techniques interrogators had devised to try to make their prisoners talk.

Among the techniques described, said two officials present, was waterboarding, a practice that years later would be condemned as torture by Democrats and some Republicans on Capitol Hill. ... With one known exception, no formal objections were raised by the lawmakers briefed about the harsh methods during the two years in which waterboarding was employed, from 2002 to 2003, said Democrats and Republicans with direct knowledge of the matter.

... [Representative Jane] Harman [who later wrote a letter objecting] said she had been prevented from publicly discussing the letter or the CIA's program because of strict rules of secrecy.

"When you serve on intelligence committee you sign a second oath -- one of secrecy," she said. "I was briefed, but the information was closely held to just the Gang of Four. I was not free to disclose anything."

They'll weasel their way out of it, just as they have every other dirty, slimy scam we're uncovering. Just stand back and watch the drama. Give these people enough rope, well you know how to end the sentence.

I can't wait to see the liberal left try to squirm their way out of this one.

So what was it you liberals were saying about Bush interrogation methods? You know, the same methods your mother Nancy never objected too?

It must be getting extremely hard to talk out of both sides of the liberal mouthpiece. You all look like fools. Period.

With all the talk about putting the proponents of water boarding on trial, I'd imagine the members of the various congressional oversight committies would be among the first to be tried.

You salivating over squirming things is a bit off-putting.

And you're wrong, too.

Any member of that comittee - or any other congress person - who cannot produce a copy of the letter they sent to the white house w/in 72 hours of getting such a breifing expressing concern with the program has NO grounds to complain about it. They are in fact complicit, and to turn around now and question the Bush administration is pure hypocrisy.

I'll give you credit Idahogie for taking the high road. But do I need to drag up the threads on waterboarding methods that your liberal counterparts found so abhorrent?

I call it like I see it, and the liberal left going out of their way to go after Bush officials is nothing but hypocrisy, and you know that.

Liberals have once again been called out.

It doesn't matter what politcal flavor you are ... if torture was condoned and encouraged by anyone in Congress or the administration .... they should be held accountable.
