To alot of peoples' surprise many, if not most, of our national monuments in Washington DC are privately funded. The WWII monument that opened in 2004 was funded primarily by private donations, which played a part in why there wasn't a monument to "America's Greatest Generation" for 60 years. Martin Luther King Jr. doesn't have a national monument yet, due in part because the private funds haven't been raised.
In your opinion, should this remain a private cause, or should the public have some vested interested in funding national monuments?
