Facts are that there is not one reason to have a dangerous dog over a more tame breed. Studies have shown that the only thing a pit can do that another breed can't is bring down hogs. I'm sure everyone can have a use for that .

People use the same logic for driving a Hummer or Ferrari.

I propose we ban this most vicious of dog breeds nationwide.

It's been several different breeds over the years... dobermans, rottweilers, pit bulls. I'll do you one better. Stupid people with dogs have no place in modern society.

Every dog was bred for a specific task.
I guess we shouldn't keep any dog.

These dogs should all be to sleep. This family in Eastpointe nees to be under the jail. IMO Totally irresponsible human beings. With all of the examples of problems with this type of dog, why would they have one around a helpless baby??!@#

Pit Bulls were bred to fight to the finish. They should not be bred as pets, therefore the breed should be phased out completetly. We do not need a breed that is bred to kill for sport in this already violent world. Most likely, the people that acquire Pit Bulls as pets, enjoy the fact that the breed has such a agressive reputation. They have killed children and adults alike. What is frightening is that even if they breed with otheer types of dogs, their traits will be showing up with dogs that do not even appear to be Pit Bulls, but have retained this killer gene. Let's not forget shoddy breeding practices, when the puppy mill breeder will inbreed which is a sure way to screw up the puppies even further. Most people most likely do not get these dogs through a reputable breeder that has paid close attention to the bloodlines. They have attacked their owners too. I always associate these owners with trailer trash. Sorry, that is just my opinion.

It's not the breed; it's the owner.

Dog fighters used to use dobermans. Poor breeding proliferated, and because the dogs were bred to fight and trained to be vicious, there were many media stories of doberman attacks. Dobermans therefore developed the same type of reputation that pit bulls have today. They were roundly demonized as devil dogs by a hysterical public.

Then the dog fighters moved on to Rottweilers. Same predictable scenario happened: crazy dogs and hysterical public response.

Then the dog fighters moved on to Pit Bulls. Ditto.

There's nothing "glassy-eyed" about people who rescue and rehabilitate pit bulls and other abused breeds. These are the same people who try to educate the public on the dangers of backyard breeders (nice country road, sign on a tree: "German Shepherd puppies for sale") and pet shops (which ALL get their poorly bred puppies from the horror chambers known as "puppy mills"). These are the same people who try to outlaw dogfighting and get demonized by an ignorant public as "animal rights nuts" who are trying to take away our "freedoms." I had a friend from Germany visit a few years ago. She was appalled by the out-of-control breeding of dogs (and the resulting shelter crisis and animal abuse cases). In Germany, there is no "stray dog" problem. In order to breed dogs, a person is required, by law, to take several courses pertaining to the breeding of dogs for temperament and health, and serve as an apprentice to a registered breeder for a certain length of time. The breeders must register with the state. Anyone caught breeding without a license (an earned license, not the money-for-license joke we have here) is subject to exceptionally steep fines and/or a jail sentence. Given the stupidity and cupidity of humanity, these are perfectly justifiable requirements that protect both people and animals. Whenever anyone or any animal organization in the States even approaches an suggestion of such restraint, the ignorant American public and the greedy American animal "breeder" goes apoplectic, screaming about their "freedoms." Result: a country full of abused, abandoned, and poorly bred dogs. MILLIONS of them. Who pays the price for this idiocy? The animals. Why? Because Americans are gutless and selfish, and prefer to blame the animal rather than relinquish their "right" to breed or purchase or treat animals in any way they want.

Wake up, people. Look in the mirror. There is a "pit bull problem" because we have neither the decency nor the compassion nor the moral courage to restrain human depravity against the animals. All in the name of "freedom."

The people who have this bizarre psychological disorder that causes them to desire these dogs cannot be reached with reason. When faced with the facts about the dog they have selected, they simply go into a co-dependent like state of denial. That babies and very young children are often killed without warning by these dogs does nothing to move them. To carry a fire arm in public one must pass a background check and a CCW course so that the public is not unduly exposed to danger. Their is no way to prevent a dog that is just as dangerous as a firearm in the hands of the wrong person from randomly attacking the most vulnerable members of our society. I'm sick and tired of hearing "It's a well trained dog" as though we could peer into the psyche of a Pit Bull. These animals were bred to kill other dogs, not be family pets.
Sounds like that young boy and your niece have bad parents. Are they just dumb or what? Maybe child services should look into it.
