Well, you're entitled to your opinion, but I have a different one.

When I think of independent voters, I think of people like my Aunt Edna and her friends. They call themselves independent because they don't really follow politics. They wait until a few days before an election to read over the issues and decide who to support. They don't worry about party politics or even care what the various parties stand for.

But they do remember when Senator Jeffords left the GOP because it was in the news--and when they talked about it, it sounded like they were talking about one of their girlfriends leaving her husband. "My my, something must have been very wrong with that party if he had to leave them."

Some people pooh pooh the Aunt Ednas of this world, but guess what, there's a lot of them. And when elections come around they vote.

We most certainly are....funny how you liberals get so testy when challenged. The truth is that both parties need us independants..after all..that is what got your guy elected...
As an Independent, I will state most emphatically, that Independents are NOT of a singular mind!!! That is what makes us Independents.

I disagree. Voter turnout will be very high in 2010, IMO.

2010 is right around the corner, and people are still excited about voting and politics. Just look at how popular this forum is. It's probably got more traffic than any other forum in city-data... and you'd think the most popular site on city-data would be something that was about cities, not a political forum.

The Elections forum is still running hot... more than 6 months after the presidential election. That tells me people are still very interested in elections.

Default Snowe: GOP Has Abandoned Principles; Specter Switch "Devastating"

Quote:
Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine, one of the few remaining moderate Republicans in the Senate, said Tuesday that Arlen Specter's abandonment of the GOP is "devastating," both "personally and I think for the party".

Changes the Pubbies ability to filibuster.

I just think our Country has changed much..almost unrecognizable to me.You have a good point of view. What I mean about a likeness of mind is that I am an independant because I do not entriely subscribe to a Dem / GOP way of thinking and I despise the party politics. So..I make my own call on a whole host of issues. But, my decisions are always based on my love for this Country, my respect for the men and women who have died so that we can sit here on the computer and express ourselves. I will not appologize for being an American. And I will go up agaisnt any politician in any party who attempts to destroy this Country and it's values. That is what I define as a true independant. Independance of thought and of actions.

This is a good move in that Specter has finally seen the LIGHT of day and decided to jump off the Titanic at the last hour. Hopefully the 2 women will follow him and give us 62 Democrats!

No it doesn't. He has already said for the democrats not to automatically assume he will be the 60th vote. Sounds like you're assuming.

I enjoy posting on this forum, but I don't think that "we" here at CD represent most of the American voters. Most of the posters here are the same ones that post over and over again.

I just don't see a big turn out in '10. The young democrats and black voters got their man (Obama), most of them are done.
