Lets be frank! You just hate a lot of negative news...

Dude, I like you and all but this is your third thread on this topic in the last couple of hours. Please at least try to follow the site rules and use existing threads where possible.

I don't get this argument, there are loads of "third parties" so many that its more like announcing the need for a Thirtieth Party. Your problem isn't the lack of alternatives, it is the lack of a shared political philosophy.

Just being disaffected by the GOP or the Democrats isn't enough. The disaffected voters simply don't share the same political perspective. There are disaffected Democrats who I suspect are far more left wing than what folks accuse actual Democrats of being, and disaffected right wingers who share nothing with those on the left.

How on earth you are going to unite such disparate tendencies is the real unanswered question.

Now that I think of it, I think I have an idea for another thread.

Seems like he tried reforming his party for a long time. I guess he got tired of trying.

One big difference between Specter and Liebermann is Liebermann did not actually switch parties. Sure, he works with the GOP a lot, has many interests in common. But he hasn't filed for divorce from the democratic party. And in many ways leaving a political party is a lot like a divorce. There's a big difference between flirting with a woman other than your wife... and actually filing papers and making a public annoucement that you want to be with the other woman.

Making an announcement that you're officially switching parties is huge. Huge! Especially when the switch is the full jump from GOP to Dems. By that I mean Specter didn't say he wanted to be an Independent candidate, he took the full leap to the Dems. That's a big slap in the GOP's face--and the timing for this announcement is a slap in the face, too. A gift for Obama's 100 days, IMO.

I'm actually not that big of a fan of people who switch parties, but I find them interesting. They are signposts of serious probems for the GOP.

No,how many times have I seen someone post "well Bush already trashed liberty" or "well Republicans were worse".All that says is well we may do it too but the last guy did it worse.Still doesn't change the fact that it means corruptness.
