MSNBC is reporting that they just confirmed with his staff that Senator Arlen Specter will be switching parties from Republican to Democrat.

This, along with Al Franken, will give Democrats a filibuster-proof 60 votes!

1 - Specter is a Democrat in disguise anyway..so let's just make it official. He was 1 of only 3 Republicans that voted for Obama's screw-all-of-us package.
2 - Don't matter because next year..all of us Independants are voting all of them out anyway.

Enjoy it while you can..

I'm trying! MSNBC said the news just broke within the last 5 minutes...I can't get a link yet. It's only on tv at this time. I'll give a link as soon as one becomes available.

As if southern democrats (~10-15) will actually follow suit with the party on many issues.

Here's a link to the story in the Washington Post.

Quote:
"I have decided to run for re-election in 2010 in the Democratic primary," said Specter in a statement. "I am ready, willing and anxious to take on all comers and have my candidacy for re-election determined in a general election."

He added: "Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans."

There's been some of this and there'll probably be more, unless the Moderates and Conservatives can work together to break the extremists stranglehold. One can't just vote for the other Party's candidate forever.
