Affirmative Action will at some point end but to pretend that the vestiges of slavery, Jim Crow and discrimination do not impact minorities in this country is, I think, willfully ignorant. But as always, this is a democracy... you can join the likes of Michigan, TX and California and ban affirmative action in your state.

The New Haven Fire Department found no qualified Blacks. Under your theory they should have gone ahead and promoted all Whites. They didn't feel as though they could do that. They felt as though they would get sued and they were correct.

re-read it... if they didn't find any qualified blacks.. they are completely within the law to promote whites... but they didn't... so indeed they are wide open for lawsuit....

1. There is no such thing as "reverse discrimination". Discrimination is discrimination.

2. An individual should receive a job based on his/her qualifications, not skin color. If an under-qualified black male gets a job (for simply being black) over a qualified white male, that is discrimination, and it is suitable for the denied white male to sue the institution that rejected him for simply being of European ancestry.

Why aren't White men upset about Affirmative Action in regards to White women? It has been well documented that White women have been and continue to be the largest benefactors of Affirmative Action.

I'm guessing that when the "special privileges" benefit their own bank accounts they have less to whine about.

Oh, the hypocrisy!!

Affirmative action can punish everyone if it is misused and misapplied.

White males are actually not a majority - we are only about 35%-40%. It's not right to protect 60-65% above the rest. Neither race nor sex should be factors at all in most employment decisions, college admissions decisions, etc.

They actually came up with a much better system. The top 10% of ANY high school graduating class is automatically guaranteed a place at Texas public university.

How do you know they aren't? Anyone I've ever talked to about it wants AA done away with simply because it gives preferential treatment to minority groups.

For ford's sake, there is no such thing as reverse discimination.
It's either discrimination or it's not discrimination.

How difficult is this?

Thank you! I'm not the only one who knows "reverse discrimination" is a BS term.
