I could care less what happens to the republican party. I care more about what party takes the independent votes.

Look when one of our most senior senators leaves it should say something isn't right. For too long we have left the far right speak for the GOP and guess what it's hurt us, just look at the election. We need to stand by our principles but not have the extremists stretch those principles. We can say theres plenty of Republicans, however I think by saying it we are covering our eyes to the problem. We need to do something to connect with the middle of the road voters and bring them back.

I knew there were some clear-thinking Republicans lurking around here somewhere.

How about the last election? ~47% voted Republican.

I agree with this.

I identify mainly as a Republican...but there are many issues I simply cannot support the GOP on.

That's 47% of people who voted, not 47% of the American population, right?

OMG: I just realized I have over 5,000 posts. That's frigging ridiculous. Time to get back to my life. . . .

I would hope some of the top people in the GOP should reach out to you or myself, anyone who says they lean right but have issues. See what they can do to connect with those and work with that, not follow the lead of Rush all the time.

I think there are some moderate Republicans here, however our voice seems to be drowned out by the shouting from Rush and Coulter. Maybe if Steele told them to shut up and listened to some of us we wouldn't be in this shape.

Will you be by any chance running for president for the Republican in 2012? Seems like you would be their only hope.

You would be pretty impressive. At least you can admit when something is wrong.

Kudos to you! I am very happy to have read this.

I knew all Republicans could not be the way they present themselves on this board.
