Despite Steele's historic election as the first African American to lead the GOP, the party appears to be marginalizing his power while building its image based on the recycled ideas of Newt Gingrich.
Think Progress » GOP Leaders Shut Steele Out Of New Initiative To Revive The Party

This should prove entertaining at best... Party Members such as Cantor, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush; and McCain, are said to be on this little committee. What can these folks possibly contribute to the move to rebrand the party is beyond me.

I wonder why, I really, really, wonder why?
Actually, anyone who couldn't see the real reason why is blind.
If the GOP replaces him and do not choose someone like Alan Keyes, they've proven who they really are.
I read the other day, that since 1900, in Congress, there have only been......
5 black GOPers.

Like Rep Alcee Hastings D-Fl?

Convicted of taking bribes, impeached Federal Judge, and still reelected to CONgress, god knows how many times.

If black want creditability, police the crooks that are already there before squawking unequal representation.

Whats it to you anyways? You will bash them no matter what they do.

People bashed them for bringing him on. Then they bash things he says. Then they say he is a token. Then......you get the point.

But dont worry...you can just use the played out race card to excuse all your shortcomings.

OMG! They've invited Sarah Palin to join in this 'council' of losers. Are they kidding us? She's a politcal CLOWN act! Good grief.

And Gingrich? What's up with that. He's a total has-been. Sure, he's got Potomac Fever and he's got it bad, but he's dead meat, toast. He had to resign from Congress after he helped start the impeachment lynch mob of Bill Clinton once it was found out that Newt (aka Mr. Family Values) was out messing around with some dame while his wife was in a hospital fighting cancer. He's thrice married which sits poorly with the fundie whack job "base" of the GOP ("base" being a very descriptive term for these cretins).

And Cantor? He's Jewish! And Romney? He's Mormon! The evango-fascist "base" HATES these guys for their religion, hell, a sizable part of the "base" are pure southern KKK descendants, they HATE anyone who is Jewish, black, brown or not from the Southern Baptist Convention. In the last election, we found out just how little the "base" thinks of Romney and his religion, especially when the Clown Princes of Fundie Land (Robertson and Dobson) wouldn't bless him.

Jeb Bush doesn't have a fart's chance in a windstorm, not after the Bush family idiot screwed up this country.

McCain never did appeal to the "base" and the remarks of his daughter are alienating the "base" even more.

So, these are the guys that the GOP has cobbled into a panel to try and revive the party? Is this another joke, or what?

The GOP is fracturing into the social cons, fiscal cons/constitutionists, and libertarians.

Do you Republicans see the damage that Bush and the neocons have done to your party yet?

You won't be able to repair/rebuild the party until you acknowledge it.

Race card?
Why would any black man (or just about) want to join a party that out of, maybe 10k (that's a conservative number) members of congress since 1900 has had 5 black members?
Explain to me that's not by accident?
Don't be blinded either. I know that the Dems have only had Mosley Braun and Obama as Senators, but WAY more H.O.R.'s who are black.

I may have to correct myself, the number is less than 5 since 1900 and Watts would not have been elected if he wasn't a football star for the Sooners.

greg news flash, every crooked politician not just the black politicians need to be policed. Its up to the voters, not just blacks to vote in the BEST representative. I will not waste my vote for someone merely because of the color of their skin and apparently i'm not the only one. If that was the case, in the highly populated black area's there WOULD be more Blacks in Washington.
