I don't see why the bank wouldn't give you a $50,000 loan, if you had enough income and good credit. A $300/month mortgage payment really isn't much money.
The house is in Sumter, SC, like I said. On Liberty Street, I don't know the address. For $50K you won't get anything spectacular, but it is decent. There are houses all over town - hell, all over this part of the state, that are priced this way. The original poster was making all sorts of outrageous claims about how "Almost everywhere has had housing prices double in the past 10 years", and such, and it just isn't true - it varies greatly depending on where you live.
If you want a cheap one in a bad neighborhood, you can be accomodated as well. Here's one that goes for $14,900. That's right folks, $15,000! 3 bedrooms, 645 square feet. No heating or A/C, built in 1985.

well that explains a lot. You live in one of the most desirable states in America. If you moved one state north, into south Georgia, then real estate costs would no longer be such a problem. One way or another, good luck.
Pines..the mountain region outside of Atanta is nice, but you want to out from the city proper as much as possible, your find very affordable housing and cost of living, I am not sure of much else, but you could google to find out more too, we would love to move there, but no job offer as of yet, but would most def consider it, and its not far from Fla, I do not blame you for wanting to get out FLA, I rarely met anyone who liked that place! Good luck to you.
This one is 2br/2ba, 1852 sq feet. it costs $59,500. That's about $300 per month. You could probably flip burgers at McDonalds, or cut grass for a living, and afford this house. There's nothing wrong with the house, the neighborhood, the climate, or anything else. The schools are the best in the county.
Yes, I know, the country is going to hell in a handbasket. Who can afford a $50,000 house these days?
This would go for about $220-$230K in my city where the average household income is about $45,00O0 with two wage earners.
That home in my city proper anyhow would be at least 450, that is why we are moving, too expensive and way overrated!
