MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- Authorities do not plan to file charges against a Florida orange grove owner who fatally shot a 21-year-old woman, saying he is protected under the state's controversial "no retreat" law.
The person killed tried to run over the vehicles owner. He had the right to defend his life.
Quote:
The Land Cruiser stopped directly in front of him, Jones said in the affidavit. He said he raised his gun and pointed it at the occupants, shouting "Stop," but the vehicle appeared to be moving directly toward him.
Isn't that a strange series of statements?
1. The Land Cruiser stopped
2. Vehicles owner raises gun and shouts "STOP"
3. The vehicle appeared to be moving directly toward him
Quote:
"Fearing for his life, he then fired what he thought to be six to eight rounds into the front windshield of the vehicle," the affidavit stated.
From the picture, it looks like the 'victim' (accomplice, thief) was in the passenger side (bullet holes in the passenger side).
Minor correction - but it doesn't appear that the girl was the driver.
And from the story, its dubious (vehicle 'appeared' to be moving toward him) whether the thieves were trying to run over the owner.

Two less car thieves running around Florida, and probably thousands who might think twice before attempting to steal someone elses cars.
Eventually people will stop stealing big cars, after all, one might assume that the driver is conservative and might have a gun, but small neons and Saturns, cars driven by liberals might see their thefts soar, wouldnt that be ironic..
Despite the sick post above, I bet $$$ that the shooter is not proud of himself, and feels terrible about the girls death. He also realizes are to blame, not him. Had he not shot, the driver could have very well run him over and left him to die.
I love liberals. It seems you can't fire a gun in self defense until you're actually killed because only then is it certain that your life was actually in danger.
Florida's murder rate is pretty high; you certainly can't begrudge someone for choosing to carry in that sort of environment, where law enforcement has partially broken down. It's not like Chuck Crist has done anything to combat crime, anyhow. People are on their own down in FL.
