Can someone please explain to me what is meant by "family values?" I say this as I see many television commercials in advance of the Pennsylvania primaries in which prospective elected officials show themselves beside dining room tables replete with children as their spouse hangs onto their arm and a golden retriever runs amok for added emphasis. Are people who have a spouse and children automatically considered to have a better moral compass and greater capability to govern than singles? If not, then what is the point of these commercials? Who cares how successful one was at impregnating a woman over and over again, and how does that make you MORE qualified to hold an elected office than a bachelor?

It seems like your post is merely bait. You seem to have made up your mind about what family values are and that they have no place in politics. Why not just put your position out there instead of making it as though you're completely unaware as to what those values are and that you need to somehow be convinced to consider them?

I just don't understand what "family values" are? I hear Republicans throw that around left and right without backing it up with any further commentary. Am I, as a single gay male, any less capable of running a city as mayor than a man with a wife and five children with fake smiles in a television commercial? I don't get what is supposed to be so "marketable" about this.
My "position" then would be why do so many people think that the ability to reproduce better qualifies someone to govern in a completely unrelated capacity. There. I said it.
I think they want everyone to fit into the mold of the 50s family. They want everyone to live like the Waltons..
So in other words people are delusional and trying to cling to a past that will never return. Obviously with a divorce rate greater than 50%, blended families all over the place, many children in day-care all day while both parents work in another state and endure a five-hour round-trip commute, etc. the "Leave it to Beaver" days are largely dead.
"Family Values" (at least objective ones) are BS. They change over time. Polygamy and other forms of marriage predate the one man-one woman marriage by thousands of years. You can't define family values (outside of your personal opinion).
I personally don't care about a candidate's marital status and/or children. It's about as important as hair color.
Family Values is a codename used by Republicans in order to impose their brand of Christianity among the masses.
They are against abortion, gay marriage, porn, drugs, pre-marital sex, cohabitation, and single parent family units.
So this is just further substantiation that Republicans pounce upon the buzz words of "family values" in order to appeal to the nostalgic senses of the uneducated and delusional fundamentalists who are attempting to infuse the Bible into legislation. Gotcha!

Yes!!! I don't know what more I can say. there is still a large segment of the population that is racist. That battle has been going on in our country for more than a century. The change in the family demographic is still very new. Progress is starting to happen already though.

It's a sneak tactic. A backdoor for evangelists.
