Why is it sad? Are you also against black Republican groups, Republican groups that focus on the concerns of Evangelical Christians, etc.?

They would be better off as libertarians.

Yeah, I've wondered about that too. The things they stand for do sound more like Libertarian principles than Republican principles. Of course, they're not alone in wishing that the Republican Party was more focused on keeping government small and less on spending, the so-called moral issues, etc.

I've never heard of gay Republicans rejecting gays.
Geez, sometimes I wonder if you think beyond simple formulas. No offense but when a gay Republican supports anti-gay candidates [that are of-course, Republican] than they are anti-gay! Duh! I think you've been out in the desert sun too long

Can you give some examples of this? I can't think of any.

Even the Log Cabin Republicans withheld an endorsement of Bush in '04 because of his push for a federal amendment banning same-sex marriage.

I am not that poster...but giving my opinion anyway... I would say consider how important it is to you and then if political beliefs aren't high on your list go for it. Personally while I have a few gay republican friends I would never date a gay republican. I am not closed minded (as I'm sure people will say) however I do enjoy comming home to someone who will agree with me when I go off on one of my frequent political rants. It is an important issue to me...we all have issues we find important in choosing people to date.

well I know senator larry craig has pushed for almost every family values legislation, hindering the rights of gays and lesbians working for the government... list goes on.. all while cruising the park behind my house for years when he's in boise.. Every media outlet other than the idahostatesman (boise newspaper) treated anyone who spoke out as "just an angry homosexual out to destroy a great man"
then to everyone's suprise he gets caught in a bathroom sex sting...
Its just so disgusting how so many groups of people because of their faith based agenda's or political agenda's refuse to even listen to anything said by the gay community.. It's completely apparent even in these forums.. People really want to get to the bottom of educating themselves on gay issues needs to and should actually ask gay people... this notion that they're driven by some conspiracy and agenda in so much that everything out of their mouth isn't worth considering is insulting.. and is part of the reason most gay people are militantly democrats... to be militant means you don't just disagree with the other side.. you want to see them destroyed you hate them so much.. and that sort of anger is rooted in a number of examples... which is why it will be tough at first.. but I think it is best for the republican party in the long run.. to shed the religious base.. and get on base with solving real issues of the day...

I know. It's frustrating, but the good news is that most American can see when someone is being irrational. We have a few posters here on this forum who appear to take great joy in insulting gay people and spreading as much negative information and lies about them as they possibly can. We can't control them, but we can speak up. It's important to choose your battles, however. There will always be loonies in the world, and you can't change that.

Also, I think it's a good idea to not get obsessed with gay rights. I do like to talk about it here a lot but that's because this is a forum for political and controversial discussions. It's important to feel "normal" - at least once in a while.
