Have to admit, learning that the GOP is gearing up for a fight to oppose Obama's Supreme Court Appointee is laughable... Obama hasn't even chosen anybody yet but the GOP is ready for a fight. I think the GOP is too busy eating their own to actually hold up the process...

Hahaha, you know what? That's an extra bonus that comes from nominating the first hispanic justice. If they jump on her too badly, they risk alienating the hispanic vote--and that could do some significant damage in the 2010 elections.

Sotomayor's such a great choice. Extremely qualified, and all these extra bonus benefits to boot. Sure hope she's the one the gets nominated.

Well, she certainly made it possible for baseball's selfish drug addicts to become multi-millionaires, put the loathsome Donald Fehr in the driver's seat, and turned the game into a greedfest beyond anyone's worst nightmares.

So, yes, if you're of the opinion that shooting steroids into your body without any legal repercussions, and peopling our national pastime with self-centered losers who haven't even enough pride to be competitive in international competition, are good results -- then Sotomayer is your chica.

Maybe to you politics should be all about choosing a supreme court justice, but not to me. A person's politics, ideology, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, should have nothing to do with nominating a judge.

Personally, I want the justices on the SCOTUS to make decisions based on our Constitution, and protect all our rights, not create new laws out of empathy or personal feelings, at the expense of our rights and the Constitution.

BTW, how many circuit court justices are Hispanic females? Why not decide the pick must be of Native American blood, how many judges are Native Americans? Should we pick an appointee from either of those lists, regardless of other vastly more qualified judges?

Some people are so partisan in everything they look at.

And were you beating your chest when Scalia/Alito was appointed, talk about ideologies, geesh? Just wondering...

Justices do not write laws. However, whether you want them to do so or not, an important part of the job of a Supreme Court Justice is to decide issues that have not come up before. Especially now that the internet is exploding, there are all sorts of problems that must be decided that the writers of the Constitution could not have foreseen.
