a carbon-emission free vessel on a 5000 mile expedition from Plymouth to Greenland - cause they wanted to show us how efficient, safe and reliable their little paddle boat was.

If they had any sense of integrity/principles, they would have rejected help from evil oil.

BBC NEWS | UK | England | Eco-sailors rescued by oil tanker

Quote:
An expedition team which set sail from Plymouth on a 5,000-mile carbon emission-free trip to Greenland have been rescued by an oil tanker.

Raoul Surcouf, Richard Spink and skipper Ben Stoddart sent a mayday because they feared for their safety amid winds of 68mph (109km/h).
Quote:
But the Fleur made this voyage as a publicity and educational mission, and its failure — and the nature of its rescue — are certainly fair game for drawing a few conclusions.

Oil tanker or not I'm glad that there were friendly folks who could lend a hand.

Easy for you to say as you sit behind the safety of your computer monitor, have you ever experienced peril at sea?

Gee, when you go out on the high seas, you should be prepared for anything - AND you should be in a vessel powered by more than the sun.

A publicity stunt gone awry - with delicious ending.

Seems as though for thousands of years vessels powered by the wind (which is created by the sun) did pretty well navigating to every corner of the earth.

Not this one.

Can you not appreciate the irony? Even a little bit?

I can appreciate you enjoy whining about pointless things.

You just might try and learn some facts once in a while and learn that ships of any power source at times experience problems and assisting fellow sailors has been a tradition of the sea for centuries.

Who's whining, besides you of course?

But the irony (you do know what that means, right?) of a bunch of green, anti-evil oil tree huggers being rescued by a dirty, filty oil tanker is just.....too ironic.

Oh, I haven't been whining, merely poinyting out that wind(solar) powered vessels, contrary to your statements, have explored the corners of the earth for centuries.

There is of course NO irony in one vessel in distress being assisted by another but I suppose that flies above many heads.
