It's also very expensive to live in Kennebunkport, Maine, San Francisco, Miami Beach and Seattle...
Way to oversimplify. Liberal states have liberal policies that cost the taxpayers more. States with more and more social assistance programs have to pay for those somehow, don't they?

You should have seen the reaction I got when I purchased this book at a Barnes and Nobles in Tuscaloosa, Alabama...

I can't believe that you posted those comments. Nothing about them sounded like you normally post. Are you beginning to get your eyes open?

Yes, and perhaps this is a 8-12% swing in COL from state to state. However its not nearly as impactful as real estate cost... Compare the costs of a one bedroom apartment in NYC and OKC... The fact that the NYC apartment may be up to 10x the price of OKC is due to supply and demand... NOT taxation or more generous social benefit programs.

No, of course, you should live where you can afford.

Property taxes are the main sources of revenue in Texas where there is no state income tax, and, of course, there property taxes are through the roof. Ask a Texan...

The "gimme mentality" is a much smaller segment of the population then you like to believe, however. I know it is such fun to demonize the poor and racial minorities as no-good hand-out seeking ingrates, however, ESPECIALLY in NYC, which is a city of immigrants and minorities, this is not a predominant mentality. Even if Rush says so.

a bit of a balance and trade off for income tax - no?

and for the record besides Texas not having income tax there are also
Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Washington, and Wyoming.
and for the fun facts of it - Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon have no state sales tax

DON'T talk down to me like I am a "RUSH" freak

Guarantee that YOU are more an Obama socialist than I am a Rush Ditto head I don't care all that much for Hanity or that lurch looking Libertarian (forgot his name)

I am more of a Savage thinker

and as for immigrants - I am probably more in their park than you ...
I am the very first one on my fathers side to be born in the USA and my wife came here as a political refugee from a Communist country!

This thread (read in its entirety) sums up the differences in attitude between the liberal 'gimmie' Northeasterners and the Southern states that don't buy into that liberal mentality.

And that is but ONE instance, ONE example.

Again, who ends up paying for these assistance programs?

Congratulations! That's great! Are you getting some kind of pension or did you invest well? Normally people who retire that age are cops and teachers with strong union jobs who put in their 25 years and out... I own my own business. An entrepreneur. I'm 36, but have to work to afford Connecticut. Of course, I'd get bored if I wasn't working...

I don't consider it a "waist" [sic] of money to live here though. It's got many of the things I look for in a home-- entertainment, great transportation options, professional sports, college sports, a hard working, smart, engaged populace... I was bored stiff when I lived in Austin-- which is probably a more liberal area actually.

No, no, of course. Every state has a different taxation system and structure. For example in Texas we were taxed by the county as well as the city, since the county had a governmental structure of its own and services (sometimes duplicative services.. ie Sheriff and Police) to support. Don't have a county level government here, so that's one place I save...

Of course, I automatically assume everyone who spouts the xenophobic, rhetoric and demonizes the poor is a Rush freak. Of course, you could be part of the Savage nation. He does quite a bit to demonize the poor and minorities himself...

As far as me being a socialist... You haven't the slightest idea of what you're talking about... and probably little more than a surface understanding of what socialism is. If you learned about socialism from an actual Academic source instead of talk radio and these forums, you'd know how idiotic it would be to call me, who's an entrepreneur a socialist. Of course, I fear, your definition of socialist is : People who disagree with me.

Thanks for the chat. It was uhhh.. fascinating.
