What's wrong with "love/pride of a nation" that "does everything possible to help the poor"?

Although as a "progressive" (a.k.a. "liberal), I would still largely agree with the basic conservative stance re: free trade, the role of markets, taxes, and limited government (although we might debate the "definitions" or "degree").

Certainly a cheesy concept but much better than having to endure the constant "Obama's wrong of the day" threads and conversely the "GOP is fading into irrelevance" threads that have become pointless since there is never any give or take from either side. Hopefully independent voters will weigh in as well.

A democrat principle I agree with: Separation of church and state.

to be frank i see very little difference between them. why? because there is no real difference between them. the reality is that we live in a disguised one party state. mccain/obama, the differences were really cosmetic/posture etc

I think most here would disagree with you. There are clear differences between the two parties philosophies.

Well, I don't know what he was thinking of, but the reality is there are huge differences. Both parties like to spend tons and tons of money, but what they want to spend the money on is different.

Both parties also want control over certain things, but what they want control over is different.

The common ground, however, is that they both oppose the Constitution.

Patriotism: My country right or wrong.

You betcha!

Democrats want control over the economy and private businesses, in addition to control over people's health care, control over all schools nationwide, etc.

Republicans want control over people's sex lives, to ban abortions, to ban gay marriage or civil unions, etc.

Democrats want to spend money on grandiose ideas that dangerously flirt with socialism, while Republicans want to spend money risking American young men's lives over oil.

These are official positions from the party platforms:

Democrats are in favor of keeping abortion legal. Republicans oppose it.

Democrats favor same-sex marriage and civil unions. Republicans oppose all recognition of same-sex unions, no matter what they're called.

Democrats favor universal health care (but not single-payer). Republicans oppose any governmental involvement in health care.

Democrats favor progressive tax policies. Republicans oppose them.

Democrats favor a timeline for withdrawal from Iraq. Republicans oppose timelines.

Democrats support gun control. Republicans oppose it.

There are others, of course. You need to do a tiny bit of research to learn about the differences.
