As for the Republicans in particular they have allowed non-conservatives to take the lead and if they ever wish to be the power they once were they will need to revamp their leadership.I know more than one Republican that feels they have been left out in the cold by their own party, hence the rise of conservative Independents in the last couple of years. So the question arises, who's fault is it that we have the government that we do, the answer is simple, it is OUR fault. WE vote them in and we do not hold them accountable for their actions, instead we continue to allow them to remain in office and continue to ignore the will of the people. Stop playing partisan politics at the voting booth, vote bad politicians out of office, even if they are from your Party, vote for America over your Party. We get the government we deserve.

I disagree with your basis. The GOP has certainly been taken over by far-right extremists. But the Democrats are being run by moderates.

Back in the 60s, it was easy to find far-left extremists. Today, not so much. Our party is being led by President Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, Jane Harmon, etc., moderates all. The 'far-left extremists' are ... who? Feingold? Kucinich? Bernie Sanders is the only socialist, and he's not even a Democrat. Rush Limbaugh is considered a power in the GOP. Michael Moore is a fringe player that the Democrats ignore.

So this false quivalence that both parties are being run by extemists is not true in the least. Only one party is: the GOP.

Add: The Overton Window has been exploited by the GOP to shift our country's politics rightward. The GOP has gone farther to the right, and the Democrats have gone farther to the middle.

they do seem in trouble demographically if they dont adjust their message.
Just watched a show that showed both parties are declining while independents are increasing. Perhaps Democrats should pay attention as well.

Glad to cheer you up. Too bad you're not capable of an intelligent response.

the democrats are being run by eco terrorists. I started a thread about this not long ago. the right is run by religion, and the left is run by eco terrorists. those brilliant minds have to have us scared to death that the world is going to end so they can get their federal grant money. if they didn't, they might have to find a real job.

Then we will have to agree to disagree. I don't consider Nancy anywhere near being a moderate, but being that she is from a district that backs her ideas she is here to stay for awhile, unfortunately in my humble opinion. I get the feeling that you see the politcal landscape from the view point of a Democrat just as some Republicans view it from their position. As someone that is not tied to either party I see it from a different angle and see that there are problems within Both parties. I would love to see both parties move back more toward center I just have some doubts that it can be accomplished so long as we have a them verus us attitude. Hopefully it will not take another 9-11 to get us all back to being fellow Americans once again.

They said this in 1960, 1964, 1976,1980,1984,1992,1996,2000, 2004, 2008.

We aren't dead yet, and it has been said by the media for the past 50 years. We are doing just fine, and no, we don't need to take pointers from the Old Media.

I'm a republican. From the North. And I'm catholic. I voted for Bush and McCain (although that was hard). I am tired of being a part of the stereotypical group of Republicans. Southern, baptist, evangelical, Nascar loving, Bud drinking pickup driving gun-nut weirdo. We always end up with one version or another at primaries and I think it turns a lot of conservatives off who don't fall into that group. The last 20 years when somebody mentions republican you automatically conjur up that image. People are tired of that image and that is why, I think, the republican party is losing membership. It's time for a change!!

I checked Democrat, although I'm probably more of an Independent. I think a person can call himself anything he wants to, but it doesn't mean it's so. I mean, Lou Dobbs claims he's an Independent, but IMO he leans right.
