This whole concept is a hoax started by WorldNutDaily when some hick Congressman offered an amendment to exclude pedophilia from the term "sexual orientation" in the hate crimes bill. It was voted down because pedophilia has never been considered a sexual orientation; not by the APA and not by Congress. Didn't stop them from using it as a banner issue to try to distract the public.

And really, if you were a Republican, wouldn't you rather distract and confuse the public than try running on your record?

BTW a special law to protect sex offenders from vigilantism wouldn't be a bad idea. But this bill isn't it.

There are two choices with you SailorDave

1) You are very stupid.

2) Or spreading these lies on purpose.

Well if there ever was a more disgusting thread I have yet to see it. I assume you do not expect it to survive long.

I think this thread was started under false pretenses, another case of someone listening to one of the usual right wing blowhards, in this example it's Bill O'Reilly, who did the usual right wing fear / hate mongering trick of attributing something that simply isn't so. Then, like lemmings, the right wingers run off and start sending viral emails and posting garbage threads all over the place, including here on C-D.

Here's an excerpt from the Media Matters website:

SUMMARY: Bill O'Reilly claimed that pedophiles could be protected under the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which defines as a federal crime acts of violence motivated by prejudice against people with disabilities, among others. But pedophilia is not considered a "disability" under current federal law.

That's the gist of it. O'Reilly says stuff that is NOT true, and potentially millions of people get all exercised. Whether these people are poorly educated or just knee-jerk reactionaries, the damage gets done. Worse, the people who get this garbage from O'Reilly or Limbaugh, et al, actually think that O'Reilly is the guy they should trust. Good grief, what rubes we have in this country anymore.

As far as protecting our service members from bad treatment, heaven help the clown that spits on a Marine, Army Infantry Soldier, Navy Seal or USAF Special Ops guy, cause he'll be gumming his food, and PDQ fast.

People who get all exercised by the crap that clowns like O'Reilly spew never seen to take the time to think it through to see if it makes sense or is even true, they just react like robots and go ballistic. Often, they've been duped, been had.

Here's how the fine art of "critical thinking" works: If it was really necessary to protect our service members against acts of hate, why hasn't it already been done? Further, the OP should ask himself why didn't the GOP fix it, since they owned Congress from 1994-2006, and the white house from 2001-2009? Does this make sense to those who think it's true? Do they not care about the truth? Do they only want something or someone to be pissed at? Every chance he got, Bush waved the flag and shamelessly reminded the nation to support our troops, pandering ceaselessly to everyone's patriotic feelings, yet he did nothing to fix it. Why? Does it make sense that he'd miss the chance to pander one more time to patriotic feelings and pass a no-brainer to support our troops?

This thread would be hilarious if it weren't so sad. If it needed fixing all these years, and if the GOP had control of Congress for 12 years and the White House for 6 of those years as well, how come, all of a sudden, it's the Democrats who are dissing our troops and protecting sex criminals? Can anyone think in this country any more, or does O'Reilly get his talking points from James Dobson, since what O'Reilly said is exactly the kind of spin that Dobson's whack job organization puts on everything, managing to work pedophilia into the argument to instill a sense of disgust with the people on the other side of the aisle.

I've wasted far too much time on this stupid thread already. I wish people would check crap out before they start posting garbage and lies.

Im a conservative, it's getting old having to start off with this every post these days, yet Senator McCain did NOT vote for the new GI Bill while President Obama, then Senator Obama, did.

I'm sick of people form both sides painting the opposition with such a broad brush. Not every Republican is a redneck racist, not every Democrat hates the military.

ALL hate crime laws should be eliminated. There's no way to keep track of the number of groups that could potentially be targeted. The fairest thing to do is to punish the crime, not the motivation.

Obviously OP is misinformed if he truly feels that pedophiles are to be protected, but the reality is that none of these laws should exist.
